United States Navy Bureau System
The "bureau system" of the United States Navy was the United States Department of the Navy, Department of the Navy's material-support organization from 1842 through 1966. The bureau chiefs were largely autonomous, reporting directly to the Secretary of the Navy and managing their respective organizations without the influence of other bureaus. In 1966, the bureaus were gradually replaced by unified commands (generally known as "United States Navy systems commands, systems commands" or SYSCOMs) reporting to the Chief of Naval Operations. Bureau Of Supplies And Accounts
The Bureau of Supplies and Accounts (BuSandA) was the United States Navy's supply organization between 1892 and 1966. Established in 1842 as the Bureau of Provisions and Clothing, the bureau was responsible for the procurement, receipt, storage, shipment, and issuance of food, fuel, clothing, general stores, and other materials. BuSandA also maintained and operated naval supply depots and similar units, and supervised activities of the Navy's Supply Corps officers. Lexington-class Battlecruiser
The ''Lexington''-class battlecruisers were officially the only ship class, class of battlecruiser to ever be ordered by the United States Navy. The 16"/50 caliber Mark 2 gun and the near-identical Mark 3 were guns originally designed and built for the United States Navy as the main armament for the ''South Dakota''-class battleships and s. Iowa-class Battleship
The ''Iowa'' class was a class of six fast battleships ordered by the United States Navy in 1939 and 1940. The General Board of the United States Navy was an advisory body of the United States Navy, somewhat akin to a naval general staff and somewhat not.
