United Religions Initiative
The United Religions Initiative (URI) is a global grassroots interfaith network. It has local and global initiatives through more than 800 member groups and organizations, called Cooperation Circles, to engage in community action such as conflict resolution and reconciliation, environmental sustainability, education, women's and youth programs, and advocacy for human rights. The organization was founded by William E. Swing, along with David Cooperrider and Diana Whitney. The URI Charter was signed by more than 200 people present, and hundreds more joining over the Internet, at a ceremony in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US, on June 26, 2000. URI also holds consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Presidio Of San Francisco
The Presidio of San Francisco (originally, El Presidio Real de San Francisco or The Royal Fortress of Saint Francis) is a park and former U.S. Army post on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula in San Francisco, California, and is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Kiran Bali
Kiran Bali, MBE, JP (born 1978) is a British magistrate, climate change activist, interfaith leader and the Global Chair of the United Religions Initiative. She was born in Fartown, Huddersfield, in Yorkshire, England. Bali has served as the general secretary of the Hindu Society of Kirklees and Calderdale, and was director of the Yorkshire and the Humber Faiths forum. She also served as president of the Huddersfield Interfaith Council. Bali was recognized by Queen Elizabeth II for her interfaith work when she was named a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2008. Interfaith Dialogue
Interfaith dialogue refers to cooperative, constructive, and positive interaction between people of different religious traditions (i.e. "faiths") and/or spiritual or humanistic beliefs, at both the individual and institutional levels. It is distinct from syncretism or alternative religion, in that dialogue often involves promoting understanding between different religions or beliefs to increase acceptance of others, rather than to synthesize new beliefs. David Cooperrider (born July 14, 1954), is the Fairmount Minerals Chair and Professor of Social Entrepreneurship at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, and Faculty Director at the Center for Business as an Agent of World Benefit at Case. Cooperrider also teaches at University of Pennsylvania as well as Claremont University, where he is The Peter F. Drucker Distinguished Fellow.
