United Nations Statistical Commission
The United Nations Statistical Commission (StatCom) is a Functional Commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, established in 1947. The Statistical Commission oversees the work of the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD). Its 24 member states are elected by the Economic and Social Council on the basis of the following geographical distribution: African states (5), Asian States (4), Eastern European States (4), Latin American and Caribbean States (4), Western European and other States (7). Since July 1999 the Commission meets every year. Daasebre Oti Boateng
Daasebre Oti Boateng (1938 – August 2021) was a Ghanaian statistician, academic, and traditional ruler. He was the Omanhene (paramount chief) of New Juaben in the Eastern Region from 1992 until his death in 2021. He served as president of the Eastern Region House of Chiefs. Early life and education He attended Konongo Odumasi Senior High School for his secondary school education. Oti Boateng proceeded to the University of Ghana where he completed with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Economics. He furthered his education at London School of Economics and Political Science where he earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Statistics. Oti Boateng also held Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Statistics from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom. The Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities (CCSA) is composed of international and supranational organisations, whose mandate includes the provision of statistics. Herbert Marshall (statistician)
Herbert Marshall (1888–1977) was a Canadian academic, statistician, and third Dominion Statistician from 1945 until his retirement in 1956. Early years Herbert Marshall graduated from the University of Toronto in 1915 and worked for two years as part of that university's economics staff. His academic was interrupted by military service during World War I. Career at the Dominion Bureau of Statistics He began his 35-year career at the Dominion Bureau of Statistics in 1921 as a prices statistician. He was later responsible for directing work in the balance of international payments and Canadian-American investment flows. In 1939, his work in the area of international trade had been recognized by the award of the Gold Medal of the Professional Institute of the Civil Service. Philip Idenburg
Philippus Jacobus Idenburg (Hillegersberg, 26 November 1901 – Wassenaar, 29 December 1995) was a Dutch educationalist and statistician. Philip joined the Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics) where he worked except for a short break until retirement in 1966. In 1940 he was involved with Gerd Arntz in salvaging the work of the Mundaneum in The Hague, transferring the material to the Dutch Foundation for Statistics which he set up under the leadership of Jan van Ettinger and Arntz. In 1943 Arntz was conscripted into the German Army, and when he returned to the Netherlands in 1946, Idenburg vouched for him and enabled him to return to his previous job. Sir Harry Campion, KCB, CBE (20 May 1905 – 24 May 1996) was a British statistician and the first director of what was the Central Statistical Office of the United Kingdom. He was also first director of the United Nations Statistical Office. He played a leading role in the development of official statistics, nationally and internationally, after the Second World War. George Wood (New Zealand Statistician)
Sir George Ernest Francis Wood (13 July 1900 – 18 December 1978) was a New Zealand economist and statistician. He served as government statistician in Palestine from 1938 to 1945, New Zealand government statistician from 1946 to 1958, and chair of the Consumer Council from 1959 to 1975. Wood chaired the United Nations Statistical Commission from 1958 to 1960, and was a director of the Reserve Bank between 1959 and 1963. Donal McCarthy
Michael Donal McCarthy (4 June 1908 – 31 January 1980) was an Irish academic, public servant, university administrator, hurler and Gaelic footballer who played as a right wing-back for the Cork senior teams. Born in Midleton, County Cork, McCarthy first played competitive hurling during his schooling at Rockwell College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty when he first linked up with the Cork senior football team. He joined the senior panel during the 1928 championship. McCarthy later became a regular member of the hurling team as well, and won one All-Ireland medal. At club level McCarthy was a two-time championship medallist with Collegians. He also played with Carrigtwohill Throughout his career McCarthy made one championship appearances. He retired from inter-county hurling following the conclusion of the 1929 championship.
