United Nations Security Council Resolution 490
United Nations Security Council resolution 490 was adopted unanimously on 21 July 1981, after taking note of a report by the secretary-general. The council called for an immediate cessation of attacks by Israel on Lebanon. The council went on to demand that Israel respect the territorial integrity of Lebanon, and requested the secretary-general to report back on the situation within 48 hours. The secretary-general of the United Nations (UNSG or SG) is the chief administrative officer of the United Nations and head of the United Nations Secretariat, one of the six principal organs of the United Nations. The Blue Line is a demarcation line between Lebanon and Israel and Lebanon and the Golan Heights published by the United Nations on 7 June 2000 for the purposes of determining whether Israel had fully withdrawn from Lebanon. It has been described as: "temporary" and "not a border, but a “line of withdrawal”.
