United Nations Security Council resolution 1122, adopted unanimously on 29 July 1997, after recalling previous United Nations Security Council resolution, resolutions on Israel and Lebanon including United Nations Security Council Resolution 501, 501 (1982), United Nations Security Council Resolution 508, 508 (1982), United Nations Security Council Resolution 509, 509 (1982) and United Nations Security Council Resolution 520, 520 (1982) as well as studying the report by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, secretary-general on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) approved in United Nations Security Council Resolution 426, 426 (1978), the council decided to extend the mandate of UNIFIL for a further six months until 31 January 1998. Blue Line (border)
The Blue Line is a demarcation line between Lebanon and Israel and Lebanon and the Golan Heights published by the United Nations on 7 June 2000 for the purposes of determining whether Israel had fully withdrawn from Lebanon. It has been described as: "temporary" and "not a border, but a “line of withdrawal”. On 19 March 1978, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolutions 425 and 426 calling for Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon following its recent invasion and to ensure that the government of Lebanon restores effective authority in the area to the border. Government Of Lebanon
Lebanon is a parliamentary democratic republic within the overall framework of confessionalism, a form of consociationalism in which the highest offices are proportionately reserved for representatives from certain religious communities. The constitution of Lebanon grants the people the right to change their government. However, from the mid-1970s until the parliamentary elections in 1992, the Lebanese Civil War (1975–1990) precluded the exercise of political rights. According to the constitution, direct elections must be held for the parliament every four years, however after the parliamentary election in 2009 another election was not held until 2018.
