Patchogue United Methodist Church is a historic United Methodist church at the southwest corner of South Ocean Avenue and Church Street in Patchogue, New York. The official address is 10 Church Street. It was built in 1889, although the Methodists originally shared a church building with the Congregationalists between 1793 and 1832. Patchogue (, ) is a Administrative divisions of New York#Village, village in Suffolk County, New York. The population was 11,798 at the time of the 2010 census. Patchogue is part of the Town (New York), town of Brookhaven, New York, Brookhaven, on the South Shore (Long Island), south shore of Long Island, adjoining Great South Bay. It is officially known as the ''Incorporated Village of Patchogue''. History Patchogue, which is approximately east of Manhattan, became incorporated in 1893. In 1812 there were 75 inhabitants in Patchogue according to ''The Brooklyn Eagle'', published in 1930. The Patchogue Former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) was operated from 1904 to 1926. The company was a small operation, converting coal and/or petroleum products to a flammable gas for use in lighting and industry. The company was sold to Long Island Lighting Company (LILCO). Congregational Church of Patchogue is a historic church at 95 East Main Street in Patchogue, New York. Though the current church building was built in 1892, the church itself dates back to 1793 in a small building, approximately 25 by 20 feet, that was shared with some local Methodists. Even after constructing a new building in 1820, the Congregationalists and Methodists shared the church building until 1832. A third location for the Congregationalists was built on the corner of Lake Street and North Ocean Avenue in 1854.
