Unitarian Church (Hampton Falls, New Hampshire)
The Unitarian Church (also known as the First Congregational Society - Unitarian of Hampton Falls) is a historic American church on Exeter Road (New Hampshire Route 88) in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire. Built in 1838, it is a rare example of an '' in antes'' Greek Revival temple front in the state, and is distinguished by the presence of Victorian trompe-l'œil panels and ribbing on its interior walls. The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It is presently used for services in the summertime. Architecture and history The Hampton Falls Unitarian Church is located in a rural setting near the geographic center of the town, on the north side of Exeter Road. It is a -story wood-frame structure, with a gabled roof and clapboarded exterior. Its front facade is recessed behind a Greek Revival temple front whose sides are extensions of the building walls, and whose inner section is supported by two round columns. Hampton Falls, New Hampshire
Hampton Falls (formerly the "Third Parish and Hampton Falls") is a town in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 2,403 at the 2020 census. History The land of Hampton Falls was first settled by Europeans in 1638, the same time as Hampton, of which it was then a part. The settlement of Hampton joined Norfolk County, Massachusetts Colony, in 1643, along with Exeter, Dover, Portsmouth, Salisbury and Haverhill. The county existed until 1679, when the modern-day New Hampshire towns separated from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Records indicate a building that became a church may have existed near where the Weare Monument now is in 1665, but when it was first built is unknown. It was not until 1709 that the town was officially established as the Third Parish of Hampton. New Hampshire Route 88
New Hampshire Route 88 (abbreviated NH 88) is a east–west state highway in Rockingham County in southeastern New Hampshire, United States. It runs from Hampton Falls to Exeter. The western terminus of NH 88 is in Exeter at New Hampshire Route 108, though it is unsigned northwest of its intersection with New Hampshire Route 27 and New Hampshire Route 111 other than at the NH 108 intersection itself. The eastern terminus is in Hampton Falls at U.S. Route 1 (Lafayette Road). Route description NH 88 begins in the west at NH 108 on the northern edge of Exeter, less than from the exit 11 junction with NH 101 (the Exeter-Hampton Expressway) in Stratham. The highway heads southeast, roughly paralleling NH 101 for 1.1 miles before intersecting NH 27/ NH 111 east of town.
