The Union of Writers of Russia (russian: Союз писателей России, translit=Soyuz pisatelei Rossii) is a creative union of professional writers in Russia. It is the successor of the Union of RSFSR Writers, which was founded in 1958. The Union of Writers of Russia has 90 branches in the regions of Russia and other countries. Activities The main tasks of the Union are: * preservation of a single cultural, literary and informational field in the Russian Federation; * assistance to the preservation and development of the Russian language and literature, as well as languages and literatures of other peoples of the multinational Russian Federation; meeting the needs of the peoples of the world who want to join the Russian language and literature; * creation of conditions for the realization of the creative abilities of the members of the Union and beginning writers; * strengthening the creative community of writers of the Russian Federation, as well as other countries of ...

Creative Union
Creative unions () in the Soviet Union were voluntary societies that united Soviet citizens according to their creative (artistic) occupations. They were similar to Soviet trade unions; more specifically, in Soviet ideology and law they were a subset of trade unions, because creative professionals were officially a type of worker. Unofficially, many of their members differentiated themselves culturally from blue-collar workers.. The earliest of them were established in 1932 after disbanding the previous unions, such as RAPP, RAPM, and AKhRR. Like nearly everything in the Soviet Union, they operated under the strict ideological supervision of the Communist Party, and what is more, the creative unions were means of an effective control over the artistic production of their members: the members of these unions had priority in publishing of their works.
