Union Of Communication
The Union of Communication (german: Gewerkschaft Kommunikation, GEKO; french: Syndicat de la communication) was a trade union representing workers in the communication sector in Switzerland. The union was founded on 26 October 1998, when the Union of Swiss Postal, Telegraph and Telephone Personnel merged with the Union of Swiss Postal Employees, the Union of Swiss Telegraph and Telephone Supervisors, the Association of Swiss Air Traffic Control Personnel, the Post Office Keepers' Association and the postal section of the Staff Association of the Federal Administration. It affiliated to the Swiss Trade Union Federation. On formation, the union had 42,575 members, but it struggled following the removal of Swiss Post workers from the civil service, and the emergence of various private parcel carriers. The Union of Swiss Telegraph and Telephone Supervisors (german: Verband schweizerischer Telegraphen- und Telephonbeamter, VSTTB; french: Association suisse des fonctionnaires des télégraphes et téléphones) was a trade union representing telecommunication workers in Switzerland. The union was founded in 1874, as the Swiss Telegraphists' Association, the first permanent trade union in the Swiss public sector. It affiliated to the General Association of Federal Civil Servants and Employees in 1898, but left again in 1902. In 1910, it began admitting women, and in 1912, it adopted its final name. The union was founded in 1912 as the Association of Civil Servants and Employees of the Federal Central Administration. In 1973, it became the Staff Association of the General Federal Administration, and then in 1984 the Staff Association of the Federal Administration. The union was founded in December 1998, when the Union of Printing and Paper merged with the Swiss Lithographers' Union, the Employees' Union of the Swiss Book Trade, and the Swiss Union of Journalists. Christian Levrat (born 7 July 1970) is a Swiss politician. He served as the President of the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland from 2008 until 2020. He has served as a member of the Council of States from Fribourg since 2012. Prior to the Council of states, He was a member of the National Council in from 2003 to 2012. Levrat was born in La Tour-de-Trême, now part of Bulle in the Canton of Fribourg. He earned a bilingual law degree from University of Fribourg and a master's degree at the University of Leicester.
