The Union for the Republic (french: Union pour la République) is a registered political party in Burkina Faso (formerly Upper Volta). The UPR is currently led by Toussaint Abel Coulibaly. At the legislative elections, 6 May 2007, the party won 5 out of 111 seats. During the 2014 Burkinabé uprising, protesters raided and burned down Coulibaly's home. The Union for the Republic (''Union pour la République'', UR) is a political party in the Republic of the Congo. It was founded on March 15, 1995, under the leadership of Benjamin Bounkoulou. The UR was established by members of parliament who left the ruling Pan-African Union for Social Democracy (UPADS) and another party in January 1995, complaining of government favoritism towards people from Niari Region and Lékoumou Region at the expense of Bouenza Region, from which these members of parliament originated. The Union for the Republic ( it, Unione per la Repubblica, UpR) was a centrist political party in Italy. It was formed by Francesco Cossiga and his followers after the break-up of the Democratic Union for the Republic (UDR) in November 1999. The UpR formed a short-lived centrist alliance called The Clover with the Italian Democratic Socialists (SDI) and Italian Republican Party (PRI), which was responsible for the fall of the D'Alema I Cabinet on 18 December. Consequently, the UpR did not enter in D'Alema II Cabinet. The Union for the Republic ( ar, الإتØاد من أجل الجمهورية; french: Union pour la République, UPR) was a political party in Mauritania. The party was formed in 2009 by Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz after he resigned from the military, to run for President of Mauritania. Aziz resigned as chairman of the party on 2 August 2009 after winning the presidential election, as the President of Mauritania cannot be a member of any party. The party also won 13 of the 17 seats up for re-election to the Mauritanian Senate in 2009, giving the UPR control of a total of 38 of the 53 Senate seats. As a result of the 2018 parliamentary election, UPR became the largest political party in Mauritania. Four major political parties merged into the Union for the Republic after the election.
