Union County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 27,134. Its county seat is New Albany. According to most sources, the county received its name by being a union of pieces of several large counties, like other Union counties in other states. However, other sources say that the name was meant to mark the re-union of Mississippi and the other Confederate states after the Civil War (at the time, the state had a Republican government under Reconstruction). Pontotoc County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It has been identified as one of the most corrupt counties in Northern Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 29,957. Its county seat is Pontotoc. It was created on February 9, 1836, from lands ceded to the United States under the Chickasaw Cession. Tippah County is a county located on the northern border of the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 22,232. Its county seat is Ripley. The name ''"Tippah"'' is derived from a Chickasaw language word meaning "cut off." It was taken from the creek of the same name that flows across much of the original county from northeast to southwest before emptying into the Tallahatchie River. Mississippi Highway 355 (MS 355) is a north–south state highway in Pontotoc and Union counties. It connects the town of Thaxton with the town of New Albany. The entire length of MS 355 is a rural, two-lane, state highway. Route description MS 355 begins at an intersection with MS 346 in the community of Esperanza, north of Thaxton in Pontotoc County. Mississippi Highway 349 (MS 349) is a north–south state highway in the North Central Hills region of North Mississippi. It connects MS 30 to the town of Potts Camp ending at MS 178. All of MS 349 travels within Holly Springs National Forest. A loop of MS 349 runs to the east of the highway near Bethlehem is designated Mississippi Highway 347.
