An unincorporated area is a region that is not governed by a local municipal corporation. Widespread unincorporated communities and areas are a feature of the United States and Canada. Most other countries of the world either have no unincorporated areas at all or these are very rare. Northern Territory Rates Act Area
The Northern Territory Rates Act Area, formerly the Darwin Rates Act Area, is an unincorporated area in the Northern Territory of Australia located in Darwin and where municipal services are provided by the Northern Territory Government. It is an industrial area where rates revenue goes directly to the Northern Territory Government. It consists the localities of East Arm, Tivendale and Wishart, and parts of the localities of Berrimah, Charles Darwin and Hidden Valley. The only locality in the area with a residential population is East Arm, which had a population of 13 in 2016 (all of whom were male). The Top End of Australia's Northern Territory is a geographical region encompassing the northernmost section of the Northern Territory, which aside from the Cape York Peninsula is the northernmost part of the Australian continent. Sydney Harbour

Lord Howe Island (; formerly Lord Howe's Island) is an irregularly crescent-shaped volcanic remnant in the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand, part of the Australian state of New South Wales. It lies directly east of mainland Port Macquarie, northeast of Sydney, and about southwest of Norfolk Island. The Unincorporated Far West Region is an unincorporated area in the Far West region of New South Wales, Australia. The area is one of only two areas in New South Wales that are not part of any local government area (the other is Lord Howe Island). The region includes several small towns including Tibooburra, Milparinka and Silverton. Silverton and Tibooburra have village councils.
