Unified Police Department Of Greater Salt Lake
The Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake (UPD) is a police department located in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. Description The UPD serves unincorporated Salt Lake County and the communities of Copperton, Holladay, Kearns, Midvale, Magna, and Millcreek. Additionally, Big Cottonwood Canyon, Little Cottonwood Canyon, Parleys Canyon, Emigration Canyon, Lambs Canyon, and Butterfield Canyon are policed by UPD's Canyon Patrol. The southeast areas of Willow Canyon, White City, Granite, Sandy Hills, and Willow Creek are also within UPD's jurisdiction. The UPD was formed in 2009-10 by the Salt Lake County government, the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, and several contributing municipalities. It assumed the policing responsibilities and jurisdictions previously held by the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office. Parleys Canyon
Parleys Canyon is a canyon located in the U.S. state of Utah. The canyon provides the route of Interstate 80 (I-80) (and previously the Lincoln Highway, U.S. Route 40, and a railroad) up the western slope of the Wasatch Mountains and is a relatively wide, straight canyon other than near its mouth. The mountain pass at the top of the canyon is known as Parleys Summit. With an elevation of , the pass is the highest point along I-80 in the state of Utah. Both features are named for Parley P. Granite, Utah
Granite is a census-designated place (CDP) in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States, adjoining the City of Sandy on the east. As of the 2000 census, the CDP population was 2,018, a decrease from the 1990 population of 3,300 largely due to annexations by Sandy. Salt Lake County has designated a Granite “Community Council” for purposes of planning and development. The Granite Community Council includes the area within the CDP as well as the rest of Little Cottonwood Canyon, extending to Snowbird and Alta. In 2009 there was an effort to make Granite a township that ultimately failed. History Granite began as the site of the stone quarry for the Salt Lake Temple in 1859. Butterfield Canyon is a canyon in the Oquirrh Mountains in southwest Salt Lake County, Utah, United States, located just west of the city of Herriman. Emigration Canyon, Utah
Emigration Canyon is a metro township and canyon in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States, located east of Salt Lake City in the Wasatch Range. Beginning at the southern end of the University of Utah, the canyon itself heads east and northeast between Salt Lake City and Morgan County. The boundaries of the metro township do not extend to the county line, nor do they encompass all of Emigration Canyon, as parts of it are within Salt Lake City. Little Cottonwood Canyon
Little Cottonwood Canyon lies within the Wasatch-Cache National Forest along the eastern side of the Salt Lake Valley, roughly 15 miles from Salt Lake City, Utah. The canyon is part of Granite, a CDP and "Community Council" designated by Salt Lake County. The canyon is a glacial trough ("U" shaped canyon), carved by an alpine glacier during the last ice age, 15,000 to 25,000 years ago. A number of rare and endemic plant species are found in the canyon's Albion Basin. Mountain goats inhabit the surrounding mountains.
