Ungen (play)
''Ungen'' (The Child or The Kid) is a Norwegian drama film from 1938 directed by Rasmus Breistein. The lead roles are played by Eva Sletto, Harald Heide Steen, and Ragnhild Hald. It is a film adaptation of Oskar Braaten's 1911 play ''Ungen: folkeliv i fire akter'' (The Child: Everyday Life in Four Acts). A new version of the film was made in 1974 as a musical. Plot Julius and Milja are in love with each other and they also work at the same factory. Petrina, a girl from Oslo's Grønland neighborhood, flirts with Julius and tricks him into stealing from the factory, which causes him to be fired. A year passes, and Julius has left Milja for Petrina. Milja has had a child and during the day, when she works, she leaves the child with Hønse-Lovisa. A doctor, who has been sent out by rich people to find children to adopt, persuades Milja to give away her child. Rasmus Breistein
Rasmus Breistein (November 16, 1890 – October 16, 1976) was a Norwegian film director.Sundholm, John et al. ''Historical Dictionary of Scandinavian Cinema''. Lanham, MD: The Scarecrow Press, p. 88. Life Breistein was born in Åsane in the city of Bergen in Hordaland county, Norway. He was a farmer's son and learned to play fiddle in his youth, playing for dances at weddings in Western Norway. Later in life, in addition to directing films, he also performed on the Hardanger fiddle. When the Norwegian Theater opened in 1913, he started acting at the theater. He became engaged with the new medium of film after seeing Peter Lykke-Seest's productions, and he decided to produce films in a completely different way. His first film was '' Fante-Anne'' (Gypsy Anne, 1920). In an interview he stated that "the film was the beginning of something, a Norwegian production with a more national character." Signe Ramberg
Signe Ramberg (November 4, 1900 – January 15, 1987) was a Norwegian actress. Life Signe Ramberg was born in Eidanger, Norway. She performed as a stage actress at the New Theater from 1929 to 1944, and she also appeared in five film roles between 1930 and 1944. Ramberg died in 1987 and is buried in the Old Eidanger Cemetery in Eidanger. Guri Stormoen (10 September 1901 – 1 November 1974) was a Norwegian actress. She was active both on stage and in film. Biography She was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway as a daughter of actor Harald Stormoen (1872–1937) and his first wife, theatre leader Inga Bjørnson (1871–1952). She was a half-sister of Botten Soot and half-aunt of Svend von Düring through her mother's earlier marriage to Eyolf Soot. Also through her mother, Guri Stormoen was a grandniece of Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. On her paternal side she was a relative of Hans Stormoen, Kjell Stormoen and Even Stormoen.
