Undertow (song)
"Undertow" is a song by the American indie rock band Warpaint. It is the third track and lead single from the band's debut studio album '' The Fool'', and was released on September 21, 2010 on Rough Trade Records. Described by the band as an homage to the Nirvana song " Polly", "Undertow" received favorable acclaim and placed in the United Kingdom's Independent Singles and Independent Breakers charts upon its release. A limited edition double A-side single was released as part of the Record Store Day 2012. Describing the origins of the song, bassist Jenny Lee Lindberg said "Undertow" developed from a bassline she and guitarist Theresa Wayman were working on. Warpaint is an American indie rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2004. The band consists of Emily Kokal (vocals, guitar), Theresa Wayman (vocals, guitar), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass, vocals), and Stella Mozgawa (drums). Stella Mozgawa is an Australian drummer, best known as a member of the indie rock band Warpaint, with whom she has recorded four studio albums. Alongside her work with Warpaint, Mozgawa has contributed to recordings by musicians Kurt Vile, Adam Green, Cate Le Bon, the xx, Tim Presley, Tom Jones, Kim Gordon and Regina Spektor. Emily Camille Kokal (born September 30, 1980) is an American musician from Chico, California. She is best known as the singer and guitarist of the indie rock band Warpaint. Kokal is one of the founding members of the band. Early life Kokal was born in Chico, California. At age 10, she moved to Eugene, Oregon where she met Theresa Wayman, with whom she would later start Warpaint. The two traveled through Europe together in their late teenage years and lived together in New York and Los Angeles. At age 19, Kokal met Jenny Lee Lindberg, another founding member of Warpaint, in LA. Career Kokal was the lead singer, guitarist and organist for a project called the Little Two's.
