''Underland: A Deep Time Journey'' is a book by Robert Macfarlane and the sequel to '' The Old Ways: A Journey on Foot''. Initially published in English on 2 May 2019 by Hamish Hamilton in the UK and on 4 June 2019 by W. W. Norton & Company in the US, the book has been translated into over a dozen languages. An audiobook, read by Matthew Waterson, was also released in June 2019 by HighBridge Audio. The book has received many awards and honours. Underland (Narnia)
Underland is a fictional location in the children's fantasy series ''The Chronicles of Narnia'' by C. S. Lewis. Described by Lewis as lying beneath the land of Narnia, Underland appears mainly in ''The Silver Chair'', where Eustace Scrubb, Jill Pole, and Puddleglum travel under the ground to reach it in their search for Prince Rilian. They find him in Underland and release him from his enchantment by The Lady of the Green Kirtle. The Search for Rilian Jill, Eustace, and Puddleglum meet The Lady of the Green Kirtle at the Giants' bridge. She tells them to go to the Giants' house far north. On the way, the three cross a hill with a maze of strange trenches. From the high vantage of the Giants' house, they see that the trenches are in fact letters, and recognize the phrase "Under Me" as one of the signs given by Aslan to guide their quest for Rilian. ''The Underland Chronicles'' is a series of five epic fantasy novels by Suzanne Collins, first published between 2003 and 2007. It tells the story of a boy named Gregor and his adventures in the "Underland,” a subterranean world located under New York City. The Underland is inhabited by humans who traveled below hundreds of years ago, along with various giant versions of creatures like bats, cockroaches, and rats. According to the author, the series involves many topics relating to war, including biological warfare, genocide, and military intelligence. Henry Payson Dowst
Henry Payson Dowst (1876–1921) was an American novelist and short-story writer active in the early twentieth century. Born on December 15, 1876, in Bangor, Maine and educated at Bangor High School, Dowst was a graduate of the Harvard class of 1899, and lived briefly in Calais, Maine, before becoming General Manager of the Boston publishing house Maynard & Co. In 1916 he went to work for a New York advertising agency, Frank Seaman, Inc., where he remained until his death at age 45. Despite his day-jobs, Dowst was a prolific contributor of short stories and novelettes to magazines like ''The Saturday Evening Post'', ''People's Favorite Magazine'', and ''Argosy All-Story Weekly''. One bibliography has identified 35 Dowst stories published between 1913 and 1923, though the list is not exhaustive. Wolfgang Hohlbein (born 15 August 1953 in Weimar, Bezirk Erfurt) is a German writer of science fiction, fantasy and horror fiction who lives near Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia. His wife, Heike Hohlbein, is also a writer and often works with her husband. With more than 200 published books and more than 43 million sold copies he is considered among the most successful German writers in the fantasy genre. Personal life Wolfgang Hohlbein was born on 15 August 1953 in Weimar, Bezirk Erfurt. When he finished school, he took an apprenticeship as industrial clerk. After the apprenticeship he worked in this profession in the following years. To bolster his income, he also worked as night watchman. Wolfgang Joachim Zuckermann (11 October 1922 – 30 October 2018) was a German-born American harpsichord maker and writer. He was known for inventing a highly popular kit for constructing new instruments and wrote an influential book, ''The Modern Harpsichord''. As a social activist, he authored books including ''The Mews of London'' and ''The End of the Road''. Ulf Underland (1928 – 1 November 2012) was a Norwegian barrister. He took the cand.jur. degree in 1953, and was hired in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was stationed in Paris, Bangkok and Vienna before being promoted to assistant secretary in 1967. In 1971 he became a barrister with access to work with Supreme Court cases, and became a partner in the law firm Arntzen, Underland & Co, today named Arntzen de Besche. He is best known as the defender of Arne Treholt in 1984–1985, together with Jon Lyng and Andreas Arntzen. Stephen Petronio
Stephen Petronio (born March 20, 1956) is an American choreographer, dancer, and the artistic director of New York City-based Stephen Petronio Company. Stephen Petronio was born in Newark, New Jersey. He grew up in nearby Nutley and graduated in 1974 from Nutley High School. He received a B.A. degree from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he began dancing in 1974. Prior to pursuing a career in dance, Petronio studied pre-medicine before being inspired by the dancing of Rudolf Nureyev and Steve Paxton, with whom he studied contact improvisation. From 1982 to 1987 he was a member of Channel Z, an improvisation performance ensemble based in New York City.
