''Underground Lovers'' is the debut album by Australian indie rock/ electronic band Underground Lovers, released in March 1991. The album was released in the UK under the title "Get To Notice". "Looking for Rain" (April 1991) and "Lick the Boot" (August 1991) were lifted from the album as singles; "Lick the Boot" was also the band's first release in the UK. The band won the 1992 ARIA Award for Best New Artist. Underground Lovers
Underground Lovers (sometimes stylised as undergroundLOVERS), are an Australian indie rock and electronic music band. The founding mainstays are Glenn Bennie (guitar, vocals) and Vincent Giarrusso (vocals, guitar, keyboard) who had formed the group as GBVG, in 1988. By May 1990 the duo were renamed as Underground Lovers and joined by Richard Andrew (drums), Maurice Argiro (bass guitar) and Philippa Nihill (vocals, guitar and keyboard). History 1988-1998 Underground Lovers' founding mainstays Glenn Bennie and Vincent Giarrusso met in a Melbourne suburban high school during the 1970s. Both were influenced by Joy Division, New Order, the Cure and the local underground electronic and experimental scene. By 1988 they formed a music duo, GBVG, while studying drama at university. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Shock Records (now part of Shock Entertainment) is an Australian independent record label. History The three founding members had all previously worked in music retail or distribution: Williams for a Melbourne distribution company called "Musicland", Falvo for Exposure Records and McGee for Greville Records. Other ventures Shock also started the company CDFA, an entertainment distribution and fulfilment company, which also engages in music publishing. Recent developments include the launch of Ragged Company Touring and Kimchi Creative Services. Leaves Me Blind
''Leaves Me Blind'' is the second album by Australian indie rock/electronic band Underground Lovers, released in the UK in August 1992 and Australia in December. It was the first album released as part of a recording contract with the Polydor label. Three singles, "Ladies Choice" (August 1992) "I Was Right" (November 1992) and a remix of "Your Eyes" (August 1993) were taken from the album. The band included surging, 15-minute versions of "Your Eyes" as part of their 35-minute sets supporting The Cure on their eight-date Australian tour in August 1992. A version of "Whisper Me Nothing" by Underground Lovers featuring Stephen Cummings on vocals appeared on Cummings' 1994 CD single "September 13" . In music, an aria (Italian: ; plural: ''arie'' , or ''arias'' in common usage, diminutive form arietta , plural ariette, or in English simply air) is a self-contained piece for one voice, with or without instrumental or orchestral accompaniment, normally part of a larger work.
