''Under Western Eyes'' (French: ''Razumov: Sous les yeux d'occident'') is a 1936 French drama film directed by Marc Allégret and starring Pierre Fresnay, Danièle Parola and Michel Simon.Moore p.21 It is an adaptation of Joseph Conrad's 1911 novel '' Under Western Eyes''. It was shot at the Billancourt Studios in Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art director Eugène Lourié. Marc Allégret (22 December 1900 – 3 November 1973) was a French screenwriter, photographer and film director. After studying theatre in Moscow, he began his professional film career in Germany and France during the Silent era, before emigrating to the United States in the 1930s. He was the son of the impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir and elder brother of the film director Jean Renoir.
