''Und alles dreht sich'' ("And Everything's Spinning") is a studio album by German pop singer Nena, released in 1994. It had moderate success in Germany. Background Nena's third solo album ''Und alles dreht sich'' ("And Everything's Spinning") is aptly titled since it marked a turning point in both Nena's career and in her personal life. Having separated from Benedict Freitag (the father of her first three children, the first of whom died at the age of 11 months), Nena had a two-month affair with the album's producer, Gunther Mende, during the recording of the album. Gunther Mende (born June 4, 1952 in Wiesbaden Germany) is a German record producer. Life He was six years old when he received his first set of drums. From that point on he loved music. After his Abitur in Mainz, his main subjects were germanistics, politics and philosophy, he worked as a mason and sculptor in the family company. After school, he earned his first money playing the drums in bands all through Germany. In 1976, CBS Frankfurt gave him the opportunity to work as a staff producer. He produced Red Baron with the frontman Candy DeRouge, with whom he continued working after the band broke up. He started writing songs for different kinds of groups and solo artists, like Roy Black and Tommy Steiner, before he discovered Jennifer Rush. In 1994, he sold his recording studios and moved to Cyprus, where he built his own house. Gunther Mende's main residence is in Cyprus and periodically he lives in Tirol. ''Jamma nich'' is a studio album by German pop singer Nena. The title is a colloquial rendering of the German injunction ''jammere nicht!'' ("don't complain" or "don't whine"). Nena wrote the album with Annette Humpe (Ideal, Ich und Ich), who also co-produced, and Luci van Org (Lucilectric). Their involvement may explain the "synth pop tendency" that makes it "a unique kind of semideparture in her catalog". Nena were a German Neue Deutsche Welle band formed in West Berlin in 1981. In 1983 and 1984, their German-language song "99 Luftballons" (and its English version, "99 Red Balloons") reached number one in the singles charts of countries around the world. History Formation and rise The band was formed in 1982 when vocalist Gabriele Kerner (Nena) came to West Berlin with drummer Rolf Brendel, her boyfriend at the time. Carlo Karges
Carlo Karges (31 July 1951 – 30 January 2002) was a German musician who became a guitarist and songwriter for the rock band, Nena. He wrote the lyrics of Nena's most famous song, "99 Luftballons", released in 1983. He was attending a 1982 Rolling Stones concert at the Waldbühne (the "Forest Theatre") in West Berlin, when they released a large mass of helium balloons into the air. He wondered how East German or Soviet forces might react if the balloons crossed the Berlin Wall, and thus he conceived the idea for the song about a major war resulting from misidentification of a mass of balloons. Karges was born in Hamburg and grew up with his single mother there. As a student he started to play guitar and to compose songs. After he had gathered experience playing live in several different groups, including Tomorrows Gift and Release Music Orchestra, by 1971 he was the guitarist and keyboardist and founding member of Novalis. "99 Luftballons" (german: link=no, Neunundneunzig Luftballons, "99 balloons") is a song by the German band Nena from their 1983 self-titled album. An English-language version titled "99 Red Balloons", with lyrics by Kevin McAlea, was also released on the album ''99 Luftballons'' in 1984 after widespread success of the original in Europe and Japan. The English version is not a direct translation of the German original and contains lyrics with a somewhat different meaning. In the US, the English-language version did not chart, while the German-language recording became Nena's only US hit.
