Unbearable - Sculpture
''Unbearable'' is a bronze sculpture by the Danish artist Jens Galschiot. It consists of a graph showing the global fossil fuel carbon emissions, and an impaled polar bear. The sculpture was finished in 2015 and exhibited in Paris during COP21. The sculpture is made in cooperation with WWF Denmark. Overview The polar bear is impaled on an oil pipeline, which is in shape of a graph showing the cumulative global fossil fuel carbon emissions. The polar bear is in natural full size and made in copper. The graph shows the emissions since year 0. The graph is 20 meters long, and until 1850 not rising. Then in 1850 the human consumption of fossil fuels rises. The graph end in year 2015 five meters above ground impaling the polar bear. The sculpture was funded by WWF Denmark, a Crowdfunding campaign and Jens Galschiot. Environmental Art
Environmental art is a range of artistic practices encompassing both historical approaches to nature in art and more recent ecological and politically motivated types of works. Environmental art has evolved away from formal concerns, for example monumental earthworks using earth as a sculptural material, towards a deeper relationship to systems, processes and phenomena in relationship to social concerns. Integrated social and ecological approaches developed as an ethical, restorative stance emerged in the 1990s. Over the past ten years environmental art has become a focal point of exhibitions around the world as the social and cultural aspects of climate change come to the forefront. Bronze is the most popular metal for Casting (metalworking), cast metal sculptures; a cast bronze sculpture is often called simply "a bronze". Danish sculpture as a nationally recognized art form can be traced back to 1752 when Jacques Saly was commissioned to execute a statue of King Frederick V of Denmark on horseback. While Bertel Thorvaldsen was undoubtedly the country's most prominent contributor, many other players have produced fine work, especially in the areas of Neoclassicism, Realism, and in Historicism, the latter resulting from growing consciousness of a national identity. More recently, Danish sculpture has been inspired by European trends, especially those from Paris, including Surrealism and Modernism. ''Pillar of Shame'' is a series of sculptures by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt memorialising the loss of life during specific events or caused by specific circumstances in history. Each sculpture is an tall statue of bronze, copper or concrete. The first sculpture was inaugurated at the NGO Forum of the FAO summit in Rome, Italy in 1996. Fundamentalism (sculpture)
''Fundamentalism'' is a monumental bronze sculpture by Jens Galschiot consisting of the letters in the word 'FUNDAMENTALISM'. The sculpture was finished in 2015 and is a part of the dialogue project The children of Abraham, also by Galschiot. Overview Each one of the 14 letters are made up of stabbed bronze books, stacked 2.5 meters high and forming a closed circle 9 meters wide. The books are put on a plinth, which is 1 meter tall. The books are stacked on each other to form individual letters, but separately so that one character is built of Korans, another of Bibles, and another of the Torah. Each book is a model of an original religious book, made in wax by hand. The books, of all sizes and forms, are stacked irregularly, so the sculpture appears with a slightly shaky expression. Mogens Lykketoft (; born 9 January 1946) is a Danish politician who served as Leader of the Social Democrats (''Socialdemokraterne'') from 2002 to 2005.
