Umut A. Gurkan
Umut Atakan Gurkan is a Turkish–American mechanical and biomedical engineer. As the Wilbert J. Austin Professor of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, Gurkan investigates hemoglobin, red blood cells, blood rheology and microcirculation in health and disease and with targeted therapies and gene-based cures. Early life and education Gurkan was born and raised in Turkey. He earned two Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University before moving to North America and attending Purdue University. As a PhD candidate at Purdue, Gurkan received the 2009 Geddes-Laufman-Greatbatch Award as an outstanding student for an academic year and was later recognized as an outstanding graduate researcher. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (also known as NASEM or the National Academies) are the collective scientific national academy of the United States. National Academy Of Inventors
The National Academy of Inventors (NAI) is a US non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging inventors in academia, following the model of the National Academies of the United States. It was founded at the University of South Florida in 2010. Starting in 2012, the NAI has inducted 757 Fellows into the organization. Fellows must be named as an inventor on at least one US patent and are selected by the NAI Fellows Committee. The NAI also includes colleges and universities as institutional members, beginning with 9 such institutions in 2012; it now has over 200, including 30 outside the United States..
