''Ultra'' is the debut studio album by English pop band Ultra, released on 25 January 1999 by East West Records (Warner Music Group). The album debuted and peaked at number 37 on the UK Albums Chart and spawned several hit singles in the UK and Europe. It was mainly performed and co-written by James Hearn; vocals and piano, Michael Harwood; vocals and guitar, Nick Keynes; bass, and Jon O'Mahony; drums and percussion. It was produced by ex Tears for Fears member, Ian Stanley. Ultra (also recording as Rider) was an English boy band, which was most successful in the late 1990s. The original line-up consisted of James Hearn (born 19 June 1976; vocals), Michael Harwood (born 12 December 1975; guitar and vocals ), Jon O'Mahony (born 10 August 1973; drums and vocals ) and Nick Keynes (born 3 May 1972; bass and vocals ). History Early career Although sometimes mistakenly described as a manufactured boyband, Ultra was originally formed by James Hearn, James Rose, Michael Harwood and Jon O'Mahony who were schoolfriends from Buckinghamshire, England in the mid-1990s. After they left school, they formed various bands, playing under names such as Stepping Stoned, Decade and Suburban Surfers. They eventually called themselves Ultra (named after the Depeche Mode album), and the following year Nick Keynes joined as bass player after being introduced by mutual friend Neil Cowley, who was the keyboard player for the Brand New Heavies. Tears For Fears
Tears for Fears are an English pop rock band formed in Bath, England, in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Founded after the dissolution of their first band, the mod-influenced Graduate, Tears for Fears were associated with the new wave synthesizer bands of the early 1980s, and attained international chart success. The band's debut album, '' The Hurting'' (1983), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart, and their first three hit singles – "Mad World", "Change", and "Pale Shelter" – all reached the top five in the UK Singles Chart. The European Top 100 Albums chart was the European adaptation of the ''Billboard'' 200 albums chart. It ran from March 1984 until December 2010. Also commonly referred to as Eurochart Top 100 Albums, the chart showcased the sales of an act in 19 European countries based on IFPI data. The European Top 100 combined album sales (both retail and digital) of new and older albums. The methodology was different from the US ''Billboard'' 200, where albums would only be allowed to chart if they weren't 18 months old.
