Ullal or ''Uḷḷāla'' is a City Municipality at Mangalore, educational, commercial & industrial hub in Dakshina Kannada district. It is located 10 km from the Mangalore City centre. Ullal City Municipality along with the Mangalore City Corporation forms the continuous Mangalore urban agglomeration area which is currently the fourth biggest in Karnataka after Bangalore, Mysore and Hubli-Dharwad. There is also a planning to merge Ullal City Municipality & some gram panchayats along with Mangalore City Corporation to form the Greater Mangalore region. Ullal is one of the oldest towns in India. Someshwar Beach
Someshwar Beach ( Tulu/Kannada :''Someshwara'') is a beach located in Ullal in the city of Mangalore, India. The name 'Someshwara beach' is derived from the name of Lord Somanatha, whose temple is located on the sea shore dating back centuries. The beach is more preferred for walking or sunbathing, as the hidden rocks and currents along this stretch of coast make this beach unsuitable for swimming. The sea claims a number of lives every year as unwary swimmers are dragged by the current. Close to this beach there is a hill called 'Ottinene Hill'. The Mogaveera, or Mogavira is a subcaste of the Koli caste living in the Karnataka state of India. They dominated maritime activities in coastal Karnataka. History Mogaveera means a warrior who after the demolition of the kingdom continued to live on river belts and coastal belts and pursue their traditional occupation of fishing.
