Ulft
Ulft () is a town in Oude IJsselstreek in the Achterhoek area in the province of Gelderland, Netherlands. The town has over 10,000 inhabitants and is the biggest town in the municipality Oude IJsselstreek. Until 1 January 2005, Ulft was part of the municipality Gendringen. At the municipal re-ordering in the Achterhoek, the municipalities Gendringen and Wisch joined to form the Oude IJsselstreek. Ulft developed out of three hamlets: Ulft, Oer and De Pol. Oer is the northern part of Ulft and is called Oer because of the iron in the earth, which is called IJzeroer in Dutch. In Ulft the DRU was stationed, an iron foundry. DRU has moved some years ago to Duiven and now has a location at the Rijksweg A12. The old DRU-building now is the DRU 'Culture Factory' and holds a library, a theatre, a restaurant and an Iron museum. Oude IJsselstreek
Oude IJsselstreek () is a municipality in the eastern Netherlands. It was established on 1 January 2005 through a merger of the former municipalities Gendringen and Wisch. Geography and population centres The municipality belongs to the transition area between the rivers in the south, coming from Germany (Rhine and Issel), and the sandy soils of the Eastern Netherlands. It has 15 population centres. Formerly from Gendringen * Breedenbroek, Etten, Gendringen, Megchelen, Netterden, Ulft, Varsselder, and Voorst (not to be confused with the municipality of Voorst, also in Gelderland). Gendringen
Gendringen is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is in the municipality of Oude IJsselstreek, about southeast of Doetinchem and northwest of the German city Bocholt. It has approximately 4400 inhabitants. In the Middle Ages, Gendringen was a fortress. Being property of the archbishop of Köln (Cologne), Gendringen was loaned to the lords living in the castle of 's-Heerenberg. In 1830, downtown Gendringen burned down for the most part. Nowadays, most of the entrepreneurs of the town are situated in the ''Grotestraat'', which makes this street the most important street of downtown Gendringen. Gendringen was a separate municipality until 2005. Then, due to the municipal re-organization in the Achterhoek, Gendringen and Wisch joined together into Oude IJsselstreek. DRU Cultuurfabriek
The DRU Cultuurfabriek (several spellings and versions; until December 2010: DRU-fabriek or Drufabriek) is the most important cultural centre of the municipality Oude IJsselstreek in the east of the Netherlands. The 'culture factory' in the northeast of the village Ulft is situated by the river Oude IJssel, Netherlands. The basis for the centre are buildings of the former ironworks of ''Diepenbrock en Reigers te Ulft'' (DRU). The buildings are protected national monuments. The whole ensemble includes also the buildings of the Beltmancomplex with the highly visible water tower. These are used now as residences. Some of the buildings remain unused. Arnoud Okken (born 20 April 1982 in Doetinchem) is a Dutch track and field athlete specialising in the 800 metres. His first international victory came at the 2007 European Athletics Indoor Championships. Commenting on the win, Okken stated that "my plan was to take the lead and keep away from any trouble. Bram Som (born 20 February 1980, in Terborg) is a Dutch runner who specializes in the 800 metres. His personal best time of 1:43.45 minutes, achieved in August 2006 in Zürich, is also the current Dutch National Record. He missed the 2005 season, but returned in 2006 to win the national Dutch championship for the fifth time since 2000. Later that year he won the European championship. Som participated in the 2000 Summer Olympics as well as the 2004 Summer Olympics. In 2000 he was eliminated in the first round as his time of 1:48.58 was not enough to advance. Four years later he would reach the semi finals in which he came fifth with a time of 1:45.52. Achterhoek
The Achterhoek (; Dutch Low Saxon: ''Achterhook'') is a cultural region in the Eastern Netherlands. Its name (meaning "rear-corner") is geographically appropriate because the area lies in the easternmost part of the province of Gelderland and therefore in the east of the Netherlands, protruding into Germany. The Achterhoek lies at the east of the IJssel and Oude IJssel rivers. On the other sides, it borders Germany to the southeast and the province of Overijssel to the northeast. In 2015, the Achterhoek had a population of 389,682. Telephone numbers in the Netherlands are administered by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation of the Netherlands and may be grouped into three general categories: geographical numbers, non-geographical numbers, and numbers for public services.
