Ukrainians On The Soviet Union National Football Team
Consistent football competitions were taken place in Ukraine in the beginning of the 20th century when the modern country was divided between Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Russia. The most progressive league where Ukrainians participated were Polish and USSR championships ( Dinamo Kyiv is known worldwide). In the 1970s and 1980s, the backbone of the Soviet Union national football team were players out of the Dinamo Kyiv's first team while the team was also coached by the Kievan native and the Dinamo Kyiv franchise person -- Valery Lobanovsky. Oleh Blokhin, another Kievan native and the legendary Ukrainian player and coach, became the USSR national team leader in games participated and goals scored for the team. Viktor Kolotov
Viktor Mikhailovich Kolotov (russian: Виктор Михайлович Колотов; ua, Віктор Михайлович Колотов; 3 July 1949 – 3 January 2000) was a Soviet and Ukrainian footballer. He was born in the settlement of Yudino, Kazan municipality. Today the settlement is included in the Kirov Raion of Kazan city. After becoming a coach he extended his welcomed stay in Kyiv. Together with Dynamo Kyiv he became the four-time champion of the USSR as well as the two-time holder of the USSR Cup. Also in Europe he participated in the memorable 1976–1975 season when Dynamo Kyiv conquered the Cup Winner's Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. Kolotov was also a European vice-champion (1972). Oleh Volodymyrovych Kuznetsov (born as Oleg Wladimirowitsch Kuznetsow in Germany) ( uk, Олег Володимирович Кузнєцов) (born 22 March 1963) is a Ukrainian football coach and former professional player. Oleh Valeriyovych Protasov ( uk, Олег Валерійович Протасов; born 4 February 1964) is a Ukrainian and Soviet former footballer who played as a striker. He was a key member of the Soviet Union national team throughout the 1980s; his 28 goals for the Soviet Union are second in the team's history, behind Oleh Blokhin's 42.
