Ukraine
Ukraine ( uk, Україна, Ukraïna, ) is a country in Eastern Europe. It is the second-largest European country after Russia, which it borders to the east and northeast. Ukraine covers approximately . Olena Chekan
Olena Vasilivna Chekan (also ''Yelena Chekan''; uk, Олeнa Вacилівнa Чeкaн; pl, Helena Czekan; sr, Jelena Чекић, 26 April 1946 – 21 December 2013, Kyiv, Ukraine) was a Soviet and Ukrainian film actress, script writer and journalist. Early life Chekan was born on 26 April 1946 in Kyiv. Her father was Vasily Ioannovich Chekan (28 December 1906 – 23 November 1986), mother Lyubov Pavlovna Chekan – Tarapon (15 June 1914 – 19 July 1994). In 1972, she graduated from the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute in Moscow. The artistic director of the course was Vladimir Etush. Chekan studied dramatic arts course in the same years, together with Natalya Gundareva and Konstantin Raikin. Nataliya Petrivna Gumenyuk ( uk, Наталія Петрівна Гуменюк; alternate Romanization: Natalia Humeniuk; born 1983) is a Ukrainian journalist who specializes in foreign affairs and conflict reporting, and an author of three books. Bohdana Yosypivna Durda ( uk, Богдана Йосипівна Ду́рда; born May 24, 1940) is a Ukrainian artist, writer, poet, and songwriter, as well as a former design engineer. Her artwork includes portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. She has illustrated children's books, and has written lyrics for more than 100 songs. Biography Bohdana Yosypivna Durda was born in Buchach, Chortkiv Raion of Ternopil Oblast in Western Ukraine, May 24, 1940. In 1965, she graduated from Lviv Polytechnic, and in 1991, from the Moscow Correspondence University of Arts. From 1965 till 1996, Durda worked as a design engineer at the Ternopil Combine Plant, a chemical plant in Donetsk. Since 2003, she has been teaching at Ternopil Secondary School No. 24 and the Malvy Cultural and Art Center. William James Durant (; November 5, 1885 – November 7, 1981) was an American writer, historian, and philosopher. He became best known for his work '' The Story of Civilization'', which contains 11 volumes and details the history of eastern and western civilizations. The Story Of Civilization
''The Story of Civilization'' (1935–1975), by husband and wife Will and Ariel Durant, is an 11-volume set of books covering both Eastern and Western civilizations for the general reader, with a particular emphasis on European (Western) history. The series was written over a span of four decades. The first six volumes of ''The Story of Civilization'' are credited to Will Durant alone, with Ariel recognized only in the acknowledgements. Beginning with ''The Age of Reason Begins'', Ariel is credited as a co-author. In the preface to the first volume, Durant states his intention to make the series in 5 volumes, although this would not turn out to be the case. The series won a Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction in 1968 with the 10th volume in the series, ''Rousseau and Revolution''. Ariel Durant (; May 10, 1898 – October 25, 1981) was a Russian-born American researcher and writer. She was the coauthor of '' The Story of Civilization'' with her husband, Will Durant. They were awarded the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction.
