Ukita Hideie
was the ''daimyō'' of Bizen and Mimasaka Provinces (modern Okayama Prefecture), and one of the council of Five Elders appointed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Son of Ukita Naoie, he married Gōhime, a daughter of Maeda Toshiie. Having fought against Tokugawa Ieyasu in the Battle of Sekigahara he was exiled to the island prison of Hachijō-jima, where he died. Biography Hideie's father Ukita Naoie was ''daimyō'' of Bizen province and initially opposed, but later sided with Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Naoie died in 1581, and Hideie became the head of the Ukita clan. As Hideie was still young (10 years old), it was Hideie's uncle (Ukita Tadaie) who acted as leader of the Ukita army until Hideie coming of age, in particular, Tadaie served on behalf of Hideie as a commander in numerous battles (under Toyotomi Hideyoshi). Ukita Kōkichi
was a Japanese aviation pioneer who experimented with artificial wings and is considered the first Japanese person to fly. He is also called , , Sakuraya Kōkichi (), Bizen'ya Kōkichi (), or Binkōsai (). Biography Ukita was born in 1757 during the Edo period in Hachihama, Kojima District, Bizen Province (now Hachihama, Tamano, Okayama) as the second son of Ukita (or Sakuraya) Seibei (). His father died when Ukita was seven years old, after which he moved to the city of Okayama and apprenticed to a papermaker (''hyogu-shi,'' a maker of shōji or fusuma). Interested in how birds fly, Ukita researched and concluded that by "computing the ratio of the wing's surface area to the body weight and using that ratio to create a artificial wings, a human, too, will be able to fly like a bird." He used his skill in papermaking to create wings, constructing the delicate ribs from bamboo, covering them with paper and fabric, and varnishing the surface with lacquer from Japanese persimmon ... Ukita Naoie
was a Japanese ''daimyō'' of the Sengoku period. He was born in Bizen Province, to Ukita Okiie, a local samurai leader and head of the Ukita clan. Biography Naoie's grandfather Yoshiie was killed by Shimamura clan in 1534, Naoie narrowly escaped from Toishi castle along with his father Ukita Okiie. Two years later after his father died, he become head of Ukita clan in the age of seven years old. In 1543, he became a vassal of Uragami Munekage and made remarkable progress in his war service. In 1544, Naoie was appointed as the lord of small castle called '' Otogo Castle''. A year later, he was given command of 30 ''ashigaru'' to defend the fort and was rewarded for fighting treacherous Munekage's enemies. In 1559, he killed his father-in-law Nakayama Nobumasa by order of Uragami Munekage and restored their old territory. In 1567, at the Battle of Myōzenji, Naoie succeeded in expelling almost all forces from Bitchū who had entered the western portion of Bizen. In ...
