Uki Goshi
is one of the original 40 throws of Judo as developed by Jigoro Kano. It belongs to the first group, Dai Ikkyo, of the traditional throwing list, Gokyo (no waza), of Kodokan Judo. It is also part of the current 67 Throws of Kodokan Judo. It is classified as a hip technique, Koshi-Waza. Uki goshi is known as a favorite throw of Jigoro Kano himself. It is demonstrated in the Nage no Kata. It used to be much drilled in traditional judo dojos. Technique description Uki Goshi, also known as floating hip, is a type of hip throw. To execute the throw, the person throwing (known as tori) pulls the person being thrown, (known as uke) up and forward putting them off balance. ''Tori'' places ''uke'' round his/her back while turning so that the side of his/her hip is in close contact with ''uke'' and pulling ''uke's'' arm around. Koshi Guruma
, is one of the original 40 throws of Judo as developed by Jigoro Kano. It belongs to the second group, Dai Nikyo, of the traditional throwing list, Gokyo (no waza), of Kodokan Judo. It is also part of the current 67 Throws of Kodokan Judo. It is classified as a hip technique, Koshi-waza. Technique description In Koshi Guruma the attacker tries to force his opponent to bend down a little and thereby be able to hold his right arm around the opponents head. This is no problem against smaller opponents. During this process he wheels his right hip inwards a bit past the opponents right hip. The legs follow in a series of steps during this wheel and in the new position the attacker simply bends over a bit, thereby lifting the opponent from the ground. The last step is then to rotate the body clockwise as this move throws the opponent to the ground. Canon Of Judo
The Canon of Judo is a book that was originally published in 1956, and written by Kodokan 10th dan, Kyuzo Mifune (1883-1965). The book covers almost all of the Kodokan recognized techniques, adds variations and new techniques, including Do-Jime in passing as well. The book also describes fifteen Kata developed by Mifune to teach adaptation through reversal and counters. The book organizes the techniques differently from the official Kodokan Gokyo. This book is based on new and revised material by the author made between the original publish date and the authors death. The original book, "Canon of Judo", does not contain this information. Furthermore, the original book was translated by K. Sugai whose translations were poor at best. Kodokan
The , or ''Kōdōkan'' (講道館), is the headquarters of the worldwide judo community. The ''kōdōkan'' was founded in 1882 by Kanō Jigorō, the founder of judo, and is now an eight-story building in Tokyo. Etymology Literally, ''kō'' (講) means "to lecture", ''dō'' (道) means "way," and ''kan'' (館) is "a public building". Together it can be translated as "a place for the study of the way."
