Ukhrul District
Ukhrul district ( Meitei pronunciation:/ˈuːkˌɹəl or ˈuːkˌɹʊl/) is an administrative district of the state of Manipur in India with its headquarters at Ukhrul, that is Hunphun. The district occupies the north-eastern corner of the state and it extends between latitudes of 24° 29′ and 25° 42′ N and longitudes 94° 30′ and 94° 45′ E approximately (including Kamjong district). It shares an international boundary with Myanmar (Burma) on its eastern side and is bounded by Nagaland state in the north, Senapati district and Kangpokpi district in the west and Kamjong district in the south. It has the distinction of being the highest hill station of Manipur. The terrain of the district is hilly with a varying heights of 913 m to 3114 m (MSL). Kamjong District
Kamjong District ( Meitei pronunciation: /kām-jōng/) is a district in Manipur state, India created by splitting Ukhrul district. The district headquarters is located in Kamjong. Kamjong District is a newly created district on 8 December 2016 and shares a long international border with Myanmar. It is bounded by Myanmar in the east, Senapati in the West, Ukhrul in the North and Chandel in the South. The terrain of the district is hilly with varying heights of 913 m to 3114 m (MSL). The district headquarter is linked with state highway of 120 Km from Imphal. Demographics Kamjong district has a population of 45,616. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes make up 0.05% and 96.56% of the population respectively. Rishang Keishing
Rishang Keishing (25 October 1920 – 22 August 2017) was an Indian politician from Manipur. Rishang served as Chief Minister of Manipur from 1980 to 1988 and from 1994 to 1998. He was former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha representing Manipur. Early life and education Rishang Keishing was born to Rungdi Keishing and Mungshingla Keishing, both from the Tangkhul Naga community in Bungpa Khunou, Ukhrul district of Manipur. Yangmaso Shaiza
Yangmaso Shaiza (1923 – 30 January 1984) was an Indian politician and the fourth Chief Minister of Manipur. He founded the Manipur Hills Union in 1974, and became the first chief minister from hill regions of the state. Early life Yangmaso Shaiza was born in 1923 in Tangkhul Naga Community, and was raised in a Christian Protestant Baptist family at Ukhrul District. His father Shangyang Shaiza (1890-1968), was one of the first founding Educationist of the Tangkhul people living at Ukhrul. His mother was Ningchungla Shaiza, the eldest daughter of H.A. Raihao, Chief or Headman of the Ukhrul District. He was the eldest son of Shangyang and Ningchungla Shaiza. ''Lilium mackliniae'', the Shirui lily or Shirui Kashung Timrawon, is a rare Indian species of plant found only in the upper reaches of the Shirui hill ranges in the Ukhrul district of Manipur, India, at an elevation of above sea level. It is located near the boundary of Myanmar to the east, Shirui village in the west, Choithar village in the south and Sihai village in the north. This shade-loving lily has pale bluish-pink petals but has seven colours when observed through a microscope. In the wild, it flowers in the monsoon months of June and July. They are seasonal flowering plants and at their best in May and June when it blooms. The peak season of its bloom is May 15 to June 5. Phungyar
Phungyar ( Meitei pronunciation: /phūng-yār/) is a small town located south of Kamjong in Kamjong district, Manipur state, India. It is also the name of a sub division of the district. The town is about 50 kilometers from Ukhrul and is partially connected by National Highway 150 that connects Imphal and Kohima via Ukhrul and Jessami. The town is flanked by Khambi in the south, Loushing in the north and alang in the west. Thadou People
Thadou people are an indigenous ethnic group of Chin-Kuki inhabiting North-east India. Thadou is a dialect of the Tibeto-Burman family. They are the second largest in terms of population in Manipur, next to Meetei according to Manipur census 2011. Thadou population have been reported only in India, some small population have settled in Nagaland, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Delhi. Thadous share a common culture with all the Chin-Kuki-Mizo community. Religion A great majority of the Thadou people are Christians. Tangkhul Naga People
The Tangkhuls are a major Naga ethnic group living in the Indo–Burma border area, occupying the Ukhrul district and Kamjong district in Manipur, India and the Somra tract hills, Layshi township, Homalin township and Tamu Township in Burma. Despite this international border, many Tangkhul have continued to regard themselves as "one nation". Relationship with the Meiteis Haoreima, the Meitei goddess of tragic love and separation, was actually a deified person of the Tangkhul origin. She was a daughter of ''Khelemba'', a Tangkhul chief of Chingdai village, and was married to ''Khamlangba'', a Tangkhul chief of Chingshong village. Census Of India 2011
The 2011 Census of India or the 15th Indian Census was conducted in two phases, house listing and population enumeration. The House listing phase began on 1 April 2010 and involved the collection of information about all buildings. Information for National Population Register (NPR) was also collected in the first phase, which will be used to issue a 12-digit unique identification number to all registered Indian residents by Unique Identification Authority of India.
