Ujikaji
Ujikaji is an independent record label and event organiser in Singapore. Background Ujikaji means "experiment" in Malay, and the label's interests lie in the curation of experimental music, with a special focus on Southeast Asian artists and sounds. The label supports independent artists with platforms to perform their music, as well as in producing and releasing their music, and establishing a complementary partnership that allows them to focus on the creative aspects of music-making. Ujikaji has released works by Magus (Leslie Low and Mark Dolmont), Dream State Vision (Shaun Sankaran), Awk Wah (Shark Fung), The Observatory, Pan Gu (Leslie Low and Lasse Marhaug), Tim O'Dwyer, PUPA, Yuen Chee Wai, Yan Jun and FEN. Having established a semi-regular night of experimental and improvised music at now-defunct cafe and bar, Artistry, Ujikaji currently co-presents, with The Observatory, the BlackKaji series of performances at Black Axis. The Observatory (band)
The Observatory is an art rock, experimental and electronica band based in Singapore, consisting largely of alumni from significant 1990s Singaporean bands. They are influential in the Singapore music scene. The band formed in 2001 and performed for the first time at the Baybeats music festival in December 2002. They have released eight albums: ''Time of Rebirth'' (2004), ''Blank Walls'' (2005), ''A Far Cry From Here'' (2007), ''Dark Folke'' (2009), ''Catacombs'' (2012), ''Oscilla'' (2014), ''Continuum'' (2015) and ''August is the Cruellest'' (2016). Experimental Music
Experimental music is a general label for any music or music genre that pushes existing boundaries and genre definitions. Experimental compositional practice is defined broadly by exploratory sensibilities radically opposed to, and questioning of, institutionalized compositional, performing, and aesthetic conventions in music. Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O., commonly shortened to Acid Mothers Temple or AMT, is a Japanese psychedelic rock band, the core of which formed in 1995. The band is led by guitarist Kawabata Makoto and early in their career featured many musicians and offshoot groups and collaborations, but by 2004 the line-up had coalesced with only a few core members and frequent guest vocalists.
