Luigi Ugolini
Luigi Ugolini (25 June 1891 – 22 June 1980) was an Italian writer. He is best known for his series of fictionalized biographies of Italian leaders in art and science, and for a volume of work that immortalizes traditions, values and ways of life of Tuscany and Florence. Ugolini left an early career as a lawyer to write, and his literary works, many of which are inducted as scholastic required reading in Italian schools, earned a worldwide reputation and several prestigious literary awards. He was also a painter, an expert ornithologist and gastronome. Biography Luigi Ugolini descended from a noble family of Tuscany whose recorded lineage dates back to 1585 in Arezzo, Italy. Ugolini was born in Florence, where his Siena-born father and his grandfather both had medical practices. Luigi Maria Ugolini
Luigi Maria Ugolini (1895–1936) was an Italian archaeologist. Biography Ugolini was born in the small town of Bertinoro in the Italian Romagna, the son of a poor watchmaker. He shone at school and after service in the First World War in the Alpini studied archaeology at Bologna University. He was soon talent spotted by major figures in the Italian archaeological establishment of the early years of the fascist government and in 1924 was offered the chance to lead a mission to Albania. This work led him to excavate at Phoenicê and nearby Butrint in southern Albania, where his excavations uncovered the theater with a fine group of statues, the late-antique baptistery and many other monuments. In 1931 he was also offered the opportunity to work on the island of Malta where he led a project for a number of years until his death. Life and career Born in Florence, Ugolini started his career in 1948, illustrating several book covers for the publisher Salani; there he became friends with the comic artist , a collaborator of the publishing house, who introduced him to the comics publisher . Rolando Ugolini (4 June 1924 – 10 April 2014) was a footballer, who played as a goalkeeper for a number of British clubs. Born in Lucca, Italy, Ugolini moved to Scotland at the age of three and grew up in Armadale, West Lothian, where he played for the local club, Armadale Thistle. He appeared as a triallist in the North-Eastern League with Heart of Midlothian. He began his senior career with Celtic, before spending nine years with Middlesbrough. Agostino Ugolini (1758– January 8, 1824) was an Italian painter, active in a late-Baroque and early-neoclassic style. He was born in Verona, and studied under Giovanni Battista Burato. In 1775, he was elected academic of the Academy of Fine Arts of Verona, and in 1786 became professor. He is known for his portraits and sacred subjects. Among the latter were altarpieces of the ''Deposition'' (1791) for the church of San Fermo, Verona; an ''Adoration of the Magi'' (1804) for the church of San Massimo, Verona; and a ''Deposition'' for the church of San Geremia, Venice.
