UV Green Lancers
The University of the Visayas (UV) is a private institution located in Cebu City, Philippines. It is the first school in the province of Cebu to attain university status. History Vicente Gullas (1898–1970) founded the University of the Visayas in 1919 aiming to educate young people from average-income families. It was initially called the Visayan Institute, and occupied two rooms rented at the City Intermediate School. The number of students had increased from 37 in 1919 to 87 in 1920, and kept growing, but Gullas could not find a permanent building for the institute and kept moving over various locations in Cebu, borrowing auxiliary facilities from other schools nearby, such as physical education grounds of the Cebu Normal School and the public library near Fuente Osmeña. Finally, in 1946 the institute moved to its present site at Colon Street, and in 1948 received the university status. Boy Cabahug
Elmer "Boy" Cabahug (born June 1, 1964 in Cebu City, Philippines) is a retired Filipino professional basketball player in the Philippine Basketball Association and the former head coach of the University of the Visayas Green Lancers varsity team. Amateur career Boy is a third generation representative of the Cabahug clan in basketball, grandfather Atty. Cesar Cabahug was a member of the 1938 National collegiate champions University of Visayas while his father Eduardo Cabahug likewise played for the UV Lancers that were national collegiate champions in 1957. Minglanilla, officially the Municipality of Minglanilla ( ceb, Lungsod sa Minglanilla; tgl, Bayan ng Minglanilla), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. Mandaue (), officially the City of Mandaue ( ceb, Dakbayan sa Mandaue; fil, Lungsod ng Mandaue), is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines. Nerissa Corazon Soon-Ruiz (born October 31, 1956) is a Filipino politician who currently serves as City Councilor of Mandaue since 2019. Life Soon-Ruiz was born on October 31, 1956 in Mandaue, Cebu, where she still resides to this day. She took up medicine, graduated from the University of the Visayas in Cebu City. Edgardo Colina Labella (; May 22, 1951 – November 19, 2021) was a Filipino politician and lawyer who served as the mayor of Cebu City from 2019 until his death in 2021. Prior to becoming mayor, he was the city's vice mayor from 2013 to 2019 and was a member of the Cebu City Council from 1998 to 2001 and again from 2004 to 2013.
