UTC Plymouth
UTC Plymouth is a university technical college (UTC) that opened in the Devonport area of Plymouth, Devon, England in September 2013. The college is located on the site of the former Parkside Community College on Park Avenue. The campus was extensively rebuilt and refurbished for the opening of the UTC in 2013. Sponsors and partners The University of Plymouth is the university sponsor of the UTC, while City College Plymouth and Plymouth City Council are the other sponsors. UTC Plymouth are affiliated to the Royal Navy. These university and industry partners support the curriculum development of the UTC, can provide professional development opportunities for teachers, and guide suitably qualified students on to industrial apprenticeships or tertiary education. The sponsor university appoints the majority of the UTC's governors and key members of staff. Pupils transfer to a UTC at the age of 14, part-way through their secondary education. The first UTCs were established in 2010. Although there are examples of UTCs achieving the outcomes for which they were intended, such as UTC Reading, they have not all been successful. VI-Spring
Vispring, formerly known as Vi-Spring, is a bed company founded in 1901 in Eagle Street, Holborn, London. Manufacturing mattresses and beds made of natural materials. Part of Vispring's notability comes from being the first English bed makers to use the patent of Canadian-born engineer, James Marshall pocketed spring coil now commonly referred to as the Marshall coil. By 1914 Marshall Mattress' mattress collections were found in luxurious hotels, clubs and ocean liners, including The Queen Mary & The Titanic. Business And Technology Education Council
The Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) is a provider of secondary school leaving qualifications and further education qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Whilst the T in BTEC previously stood for Technical, according to the DFE (2016) it now stands for Technology. BTECs originated in 1984 and were awarded by Edexcel from 1996. Their origins lie in the Business Education Council, formed in 1974 to "rationalise and improve the relevance of sub-degree vocational education". It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pearson plc.
