USNS Mission San Gabriel
SS ''Mission San Gabriel'' was a Type T2-SE-A2 tanker built for the United States Maritime Commission during World War II. After the war she was acquired by the United States Navy as USS ''Mission San Gabriel'' (AO-124). Later the tanker transferred to the Military Sea Transportation Service as USNS ''Mission San Gabriel'' (T-AO-124). She was a member of the and was named for the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel, she was the only U.S. Naval vessel to bear the name. Seatrain Lines, officially the Over-Seas Shipping Company, was a shipping and transportation company conducting operations in the Americas and trans-Pacific regions. Seatrain Lines began intermodal freight transport in December 1928 by transporting entire loaded railroad freight cars between the United States and Cuba. Marinship Corporation was a shipbuilding company of the United States during World War II, created to build the shipping required for the war effort. Founded in 1942, the shipyard built 93 cargo ships and oil tankers, before ending operations 1945.
