Unione Sportiva Dilettantistica Novese is an Italian football club from Novi Ligure, Piedmont which plays in the Promozione. The club is best known for winning the 1921–22 Italian Football Championship. Novese is the only Italian football team that has won a scudetto without playing a single season in Serie A or Serie B. Eccellenza Piedmont-Aosta Valley ( it, Eccellenza Piemonte-Valle d'Aosta) is the regional Eccellenza football division for clubs in the regions of Piedmont and Aosta Valley, Italy. Prima Divisione (''First Division'') was the name of the first level of the Italian Football Championship from 1921 to 1926. The competition was initially founded in opposition to the FIGC by the richest clubs of Northern Italy, which disagreed the old format of the championship, based on plethoric regional groups. In 1921–22, two concurrent championships took place, before FIGC accepted the new format for 1922–23. 1921–22 Prima Divisione
The 1921–22 Prima Divisione season was won by Pro Vercelli. The CCI Italian Football Championship was formed during the summer of 1921, as a result of a dispute between the ''Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio'' and its strongest teams. The teams asked for a reduction of the number of participants in the ''First Category''. Vittorio Pozzo, the Italian football coach, developed a plan to accommodate the teams' requests but, after a vote, the plan did not pass: the smaller clubs feared that they would disappear if such a reduction was introduced. Novi Ligure (; lij, Nêuve ; pms, Neuvi ) is a city and ''comune'' north of Genoa, in the Piedmont region of the province of Alessandria of northwest Italy. The town produces food, iron, steel, and textiles. It is an important junction for both road and railroad. History The community of ''Curtis Nova'' in 970 was donated by Emperor Otto I to the monastery of St. Salvatore in Pavia, becoming a castle around the year 1000. Novi was a free commune until 1157, when it fell to Tortona. It was handed over the marquis of Montferrat in 1223, returning briefly to Tortona in 1232–64.
