USA International Harp Competition
The USA International Harp Competition was founded in 1989 by harpist and pedagogue Susann McDonald. It is the only international harp competition held in the United States, and it is one of only seven music competitions in the United States to belong to the World Federation of International Music Competitions. The Competition is held every three years at the Jacobs School of Music on the campus of Indiana University and is open to harpists of all nationalities ages 18 to 32. Since its inception, over 300 harpists from 19 countries have competed for this coveted title. In addition to helping launch careers, the Competition offers impressive prizes including a commemorative, Concert Grand Gold Harp designed and built specifically for the USA IHC by Lyon & Healy Harps. Susann McDonald
Susann McDonald (born May 26, 1935) is an American-born classical harpist. In addition to a successful performing career, she has made a number of recordings and held significant academic and organizational posts. Life McDonald was born in Rock Island, Illinois. After studies in Chicago and New York City, at age 15 she entered the Conservatoire de Paris, where she studied with Henriette Renié and Lily LaskineAlbum notes for ''Jan Ladislav Dussek: Sonatas for Harp (Complete)'', Orion Records ORS 7153, LP, 1971 and in 1955 was the first American to win the Premiere Prix de Harpe. The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana, is a music conservatory established in 1921. Until 2005, it was known as the Indiana University School of Music. Lyon & Healy Harps, Inc. is an American musical instrument manufacturer based in Chicago, Illinois and is a subsidiary of Salvi Harps. Today best known for concert harps, the company's Chicago headquarters and manufacturing facility contains a showroom and concert hall. George W. Lyon and Patrick J. Healy began the company in 1864 as a sheet music shop. Maria Krushevskaya
Maria Krushevskaya (born 1984) is a virtuoso Russian harpist. She was the gold medalist of the 2007 USA International Harp Competition, where she was awarded the Jan Jennings Prize for best performance of Pierné's Concertstück for Harp and Orchestra, the Mary L. Ogg Prize for best performance of Küne's ''Fantaisie sur un theme de l’opera Eugene Onegin'', and best performance of Alvars' Introduction and Variations on Themes from Bellini's Opera ''Norma''. Coline-Marie Orliac
Coline-Marie Orliac (born 1989) is a harpist from Antibes, France. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, she has performed with leading orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic. Musical education Orliac studied at the Nice Conservatoire, receiving two diplomas of musical studies and first prizes in harp and piano. She went on to the Curtis Institute of Music, where she studied with Judy Loman, former principal of the Toronto Symphony, and Elizabeth Hainen, principal of the Philadelphia Orchestra. She received a Bachelor of Music degree and was awarded the Joan Hutton Landis Award for Excellence in Academics. Emmanuel Ceysson
Emmanuel Ceysson is a French harpist and academic. He is principal harpist in the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Formerly, he was principal harpist in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Opéra National de Paris (2005–2015). In 2004 he won the Gold Medal and a special performance prize at the USA International Harp Competition. In 2006 he earned First Prize and six special prizes at the Young Concert Artists Competition in New York City, and in 2009 he received First Prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich. He currently serves as professor of Harp at the Mannes School of Music, and was previously Professor of Harp at the Royal Academy of Music in London from 2005 to 2009. Marie-Pierre Langlamet (born September 13, 1967) is a French harpist. Early life and career Langlamet was born in Grenoble. She studied at the Nice Conservatoire and began her career in her teens in the orchestra of the Opéra de Nice before continuing her studies at Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Jana Boušková
Jana Boušková (born 27 September 1970) is a Czech harpist and pedagogue. She has been the principal harpist of the Czech Philharmonic since 2005. Boušková is also a professor at the Royal College of Music in London since 2019, the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague since 2007, and she was the harp teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels from 2005 to 2020. Kirsten Agresta
Kirsten Agresta Copely is an American harpist based in New York City. She received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Indiana University Bloomington in Harp Performance. Agresta was Bronze Medal winner in the 1989 USA International Harp Competition. She is the former associate professor of harp at Vanderbilt University and Affiliated Artist on the music faculty at Sarah Lawrence College. Her debut album, ''Dream World'' was released in August 2001. "The Covers Album" was released on all streaming platforms in May 2019.
