US-169 (OK)
U.S. Route 169 (also known as Mingo Valley Expressway and Pearl Harbor Memorial Expressway in the Tulsa Area) is a U.S. highway that begins in Tulsa southeast of Downtown. The highway runs north into Kansas. Route description U.S. 169 begins at an interchange with the Creek Turnpike and U.S. 64 in Tulsa. US-64/US-169 then head north from the Creek Turnpike, and the two routes pass through southeast Tulsa on a due north course, as the Mingo Valley Expressway. Upon reaching the Broken Arrow Expressway ( State Highway 51), US-64 splits off toward Downtown Tulsa, while US-169 continues north through east Tulsa. The next interchange US-169 has with another freeway is with I-44; to the north of this, it interchanges with I-244. As it continues north, US-169 serves as the western terminus of SH-266. State Highway 28 (abbreviated SH-28) is a state highway in Oklahoma. It runs in an irregular west-to-east pattern through Nowata, Rogers, Mayes and Delaware counties. There is one letter-suffixed spur highway branching from SH-28, SH-28A. Route description SH-28 begins at US-169 just south of Delaware. From there it travels east-to-south, passing the community of Childers, to a junction with US-60. Crossing US-60, SH-28 runs six miles (10 km) due south to New Alluwe, then eight miles (13 km) south and east to Chelsea, where it intersects SH-66. From Chelsea, it is six miles (10 km) straight south to the junction with SH-28A, where SH-28 turns due east, intersects with I-44 after four miles (6 km), and five miles (8 km) farther crosses US-69 at Adair. Delaware, Oklahoma
Delaware is a town in Nowata County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 267 at the 2020 census, a decline of 35.9 percent from the figure of 417 recorded in 2010. Geography Delaware is on rolling prairie just west of the Verdigris River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. History In 1889, the Kansas and Arkansas Valley Railroad built a line through this area. It constructed a switch at the present townsite, which it named Comana Switch. A small community sprung up here, which soon became known as Delaware. The name became permanent when a post office was established by that name on March 19, 1898. Discovery of oil nearby in 1904 briefly turned Delaware into a boom town with four thousand residents. However, the bubble burst and the population quickly fell to 108 by November, 1907. Nowata Municipal Airport is a city-owned, public-use airport located two nautical miles (4 km) northeast of the central business district of Nowata, a city in Nowata County, Oklahoma, United States. It was included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2007–2011, which categorized it as a ''general aviation'' facility. Facilities and aircraft Nowata Municipal Airport covers an area of 100 acres (40 ha) at an elevation of 679 feet (207 m) above mean sea level. It has one asphalt paved runway designated 17/35 which measures 2,500 by 45 feet (762 x 14 m). There is also a closed turf runway designated 5/23 which is 2,440 by 45 feet (744 x 14 m). U.S. Route 60 (US-60) is a transcontinental U.S. highway extending from near Brenda, Arizona to Virginia Beach, Virginia on the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way, of the route lies within the state of Oklahoma. The highway crosses into the state from Texas west of Arnett and serves many towns and cities in the northern part of the state, including Arnett, Seiling, Fairview, Enid, Ponca City, Pawhuska, Bartlesville, and Vinita. US-60 exits Oklahoma near Seneca, Missouri. In Oklahoma, US-60 has three business routes, serving Tonkawa, Ponca City, and Seneca. Talala is a town in Rogers County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 273 at the 2010 census. History The Talala Post Office was established June 23, 1890. Talala was named for Captain John Talala of the 3rd Regiment, Indian Home Guard and a prominent Cherokee. Oologah Lake
Lake Oologah is a reservoir in northeastern Oklahoma. It is located near the towns of Oologah, Nowata, and Claremore. The lake has a surface of of water and of shoreline with 11 lake-side parks. The water storage capacity is rated as . The lake is formed along the Verdigris River, and is a source of water for the Tulsa Metropolitan Area. The purpose of the dam and lake is flood control, water supply, navigation, recreation, and fish and wildlife. Background The dam and lake were built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who still administer it. The project was authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1938 and construction began in 1950. State Highway 88, abbreviated to SH-88 or OK-88, is a state highway in Oklahoma. It runs for 26.0 miles (42 km) north–south through Rogers County. It has no lettered spur routes. SH-88 dates back to 1940 or early 1941. Route description SH-88 begins in Inola and heads northwest out of town, paralleling a Union Pacific rail line. It has an interchange with an old alignment of SH-33, followed by an interchange with SH-33's successor, U.S. Highway 412. From US-412, the route continues northwest, crossing over Inola Creek near its source. Approximately one mile later, the highway passes near the McFarlin railroad siding. Further northwest, the highway passes through unincorporated Tiawah. It then crosses the Tiawah Hills and Panther Creek. William Penn Adair Rogers (November 4, 1879 – August 15, 1935) was an American vaudeville performer, actor, and humorous social commentator. He was born as a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, in the Indian Territory (now part of Oklahoma), and is known as "Oklahoma's Favorite Son". As an entertainer and humorist, he traveled around the world three times, made 71 films (50 silent films and 21 "talkies"), and wrote more than 4,000 nationally syndicated newspaper columns. By the mid-1930s, Rogers was hugely popular in the United States for his leading political wit and was the highest paid of Hollywood film stars. He died in 1935 with aviator Wiley Post when their small airplane crashed in northern Alaska. Rogers began his career as a performer on vaudeville.
