UNICEF Ireland, also known as the Irish National Committee for UNICEF, is one of 36 UNICEF National Committees based in industrialised countries. The National Committees raise funds for the organisation's worldwide emergency and development work. UNICEF Ireland also advises the Irish Government and other bodies on policies and legislation which support programmes and commitments under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Peter Power (politician)
Peter Power (born 26 January 1966) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Limerick East (Dáil constituency), Limerick East constituency from 2002 to 2011, and served as Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Minister of State for Overseas Development from 2008 to 2011. He has been executive director of UNICEF Ireland . Early and private life Power was born in Limerick, but moved to Dublin after losing his seat at the 2011 general election. Melanie Verwoerd
Melanie Verwoerd (born Fourie) (18 April 1967, in Pretoria) is a South African political analyst. She was previously a politician, ambassador, and the director of UNICEF Ireland. Verwoerd was elected as a Member of Parliament for the African National Congress (ANC) during the first democratic elections in South Africa in 1994, and re-elected in 1999. In 2001, she was appointed as the South African Ambassador to Ireland, a position she held until 2005. Between 2007 and 2011 she was the Executive Director of UNICEF Ireland. Dustin The Turkey
Dustin the Turkey, a character performed by John Morrison is a former star of RTÉ television's '' The Den'' between 1989 and 2010 and from 2020. He has been described as "the most subversive comedy force on Irish television". A turkey-vulture with a strong Dublin accent hailing from Sallynoggin, Dustin first appeared on ''The Den'' with Zig and Zag in December 1989, but remained there after their 1993 departure to Channel 4. Dermot Earley Junior (born 7 July 1978) is a Gaelic footballer who played for the Sarsfields GAA (Kildare), Sarsfields Newbridge club and at senior level for the Kildare county football team, Kildare county team. He is the son of former Roscommon county football team, Roscommon footballer and former Kildare manager Dermot Earley Snr, Dermot Earley, brother of Kildare footballer David Earley and nephew of Roscommon footballer Paul Earley. Donncha O'Callaghan (born 24 March 1979) is an Irish retired rugby union player.
