UMM (União Metalo-Mecânica)
UMM ( pt, União Metalo-Mecânica, links=no, ) is a Portuguese metal works factory and ex-automobile manufacturer based in Lisbon, Portugal. It was founded in 1977 with the purpose of manufacturing four-wheel drive vehicles for agricultural, industrial and utility applications. History The UMM 4x4 design is derived from a prototype created by the French engineering firm called SIMI. SIMI had produced the Cournil, a rugged two seater boxy looking Landrover type of vehicle made with Hotchkiss-JEEP parts with Ferguson Diesel tractor allwheel driven mechanicals itself was originally designed and built by mechanical engineer Bernard Cournil. A civilian model was called the SIMI Entrepreneur 4X4. Heuliez was a French company that worked as a production and design unit for various automakers. It specialized in producing short series for niche markets, such as convertibles or station-wagons. The business activity ended on 31 October 2013. The company's plant and buildings have been taken over by the " Fabrique régionale du Bocage", a quasi-company which has the regional government of Poitou-Charentes as its majority shareholder. Paris-Dakar Rally
The Dakar Rally (or simply "The Dakar"; formerly known as the "Paris–Dakar Rally") is an annual rally raid organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation. Most events since the inception in 1978 were staged from Paris, France, to Dakar, Senegal, but due to security threats in Mauritania, which led to the cancellation of the 2008 rally, events from 2009 to 2019 were held in South America. Since 2020, the rally has been held in Saudi Arabia. The event is open to amateur and professional entries, amateurs typically making up about eighty percent of the participants. The rally is an off-road endurance event. PORTARO was the name of a Portuguese 4WD off-road utility vehicle which was based on the earlier Romanian original ARO 24 Series 4X4 model produced under license in Portugal. Auverland (''Société nouvelle des automobiles Auverland''), now grouped with Panhard, is a French manufacturer of Jeep-like four-wheel-drive and armoured fighting vehicles. It bought Panhard from Peugeot in April 2005, and in a reverse takeover the combined company now uses the better known Panhard name. UMM Alter 2000
In the year 2000, UMM launched a new version of the Alter, the Alter 2000. With a 2.1 litre Turbo Diesel engine made by Peugeot, this engine was claimed to be quieter, more fuel efficient and had more torque. The suspension, the brakes system and interior (mainly dashboard) were redesigned. It was available in several trims and chassis configurations. Only 25 cars were made, the majority still in Portugal. The Engine The Alter 2000 was only available with a 2.1 Litre, Indirect Injection, 12v, Turbo-diesel, Turbo Diesel engine which delivered 110 PS. This engine also featured in the Peugeot 406, Peugeot 605 and in the Citroën XM. UMM Alter II
The UMM Alter II is a Portuguese automobile produced by UMM from 1986–1994. UMM Alter II Phase I In 1986 the Alter II was released by the Portuguese automobile manufacturer União Metalo-Mecânica (UMM). It featured a new 4-speed manual gearbox, a new transfer case and a new suspension. The engine remained the same 2.5-litre diesel engine which developed 76 PS. Although it was a new model it was very similar to the previous one and very difficult to distinguish. UMM Alter II Phase II In 1987 a new facelift was made.
