UMB World Three-cushion Championship
The UMB World Three-cushion Championship is a professional carom billiards tournament in the discipline of three-cushion billiards, organized mostly annually by the Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB). Until 1953 it was organized by the UIFAB (Union Internationale des Federations d'Amateurs de Billard). During a dispute between the UMB and Billiards World Cup Association The Billiards World Cup Association (BWA) was a governing body for three-cushion carom billiards which organized and marketed the Three-Cushion World Cup from 1985 to 1999. Pedro Leopoldo Carrera
Pedro Leopoldo Carrera (19 June 1914 – 2 September 1963) was an Argentine carom billiards player and the first player to set a of 1,000 or more. Carrera was a five time carom billiards world champion. He won the straight rail world championship in 1950 and 1953, the 47.2 balkline world championship in 1951, and the Union Internationale des Fédérations des Amateurs de Billard (UIFAB) World Three-cushion Championship in 1952 and UIFAB pentathlon world cup in 1954. In 1980, more than 17 years after his death, Carrera was awarded the Premios Konex in platinum posthumously as the best billiard player in Argentine history and also with the "Diploma al Mérito". Alfred Lagache (24 October 1889 – 18 August 1971) was a French professional three-cushion billiards player. Career A number of players from France have won world championships in different disciplines of carom billiards, but Lagache has been the only Frenchman to ever win the UMB World Three-cushion Championship, taking the title in 1935 and again in 1937. Nobuaki Kobayashi
was a Japanese professional three-cushion billiards player and 2-time world champion. After placing 2nd to Belgium's Raymond Ceulemans three times (1970, 1972 and 1973) in the UMB World Three-cushion Championship, Kobayashi turned things around and defeated Ceulemans for the world title in 1974. With this win, he ended Ceulemans' 10-year reign as champion. Kobayashi later admitted that he had been taping on camera Ceulemans' performances in a 1969 tournament in Tokyo in order to study the Belgian's playing style. Dingeman Jacobus Johannes "Dick" Jaspers (pronounced yas-pers) (born 23 July 1965) is a Dutch professional carom billiards player who specializes in the three-cushion event. Early life Jaspers started playing billiards when he was three years old in the pub his parents ran in his home town. Between 1974 and 1980 he participated in the Dutch Youth Championships before making the move to the senior level. In this period he got lessons from Andre Gulickx and Tony Schrauwen Professional career Jaspers became a professional billiard player in 1986 after seeing Raymond Ceulemans and Nobuaki Kobayashi on live television during their World Cup final in Valkenburg.
