ULPower Aero Engines is a Belgium, Belgian company which manufactures engines specifically designed for light aircraft/rotorcraft use. History In 2001 the founding partners of ULPower were asked to fix an issue with a Jabiru 2200, Jabiru engine fitted into a helicopter. By examining the setup they decided to build a new engine from scratch instead, because the particular Jabiru engine simply was too small for the application. The new engine should have the following aims and objectives: FADEC, simple, robust, easy to maintain, low parts count, high power to weight ratio and low cost of ownership. A flat-four engine, also known as a horizontally opposed-four engine, is a four-cylinder piston engine with two banks of cylinders lying on opposite sides of a common crankshaft. The most common type of flat-four engine is the boxer-four engine, each pair of opposed pistons moves inwards and outwards at the same time. A boxer-four engine has perfect primary and secondary balance, however, the two cylinder heads means the design is more expensive to produce than an inline-four engine. The Silence Twister is a German ultralight designed by Silence Aircraft for amateur construction, either from plans or kits. The prototype first flew on 30 September 2000.
