UK National Tide Gauge Network
The UK National Tide Gauge Network is part of the National Tidal and Sea Level Facility. It was set up in 1953 to record sea levels around the coast of the UK, after the east coast of England was affected by severe floods. National Tidal And Sea Level Facility
Established in 2002, the National Tidal and Sea Level Facility is responsible for monitoring sea levels in the UK. The NTSLF comprises the UK National Tide Gauge Network, geodetic networks, and gauges in the British dependent territories of the South Atlantic and Gibraltar. Data collected is used to create tidal predictions, monitor climate change and determine extreme sea levels for navigation and coastal engineering design. The network is funded by the UK Environment Agency. The British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC) is a national facility for looking after and distributing data about the marine environment. The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) is a British research council that supports research, training and knowledge transfer activities in the environmental sciences.
