UEFA Euro 2012 Bids
The bidding process for UEFA Euro 2012 ended on 18 April 2007, when a joint bid from Poland and Ukraine was selected as the host. Selection process The organisation of the event was initially contested by five bids representing seven countries: Croatia–Hungary (joint bid), Greece, Italy, Poland–Ukraine (joint bid), and Turkey. On 8 November 2005, UEFA's Executive Committee narrowed the candidates down to a short list of three: * Italy (11 votes) * Croatia–Hungary (9 votes) * Poland–Ukraine (7 votes) * Turkey (6 votes, eliminated) * Greece (2 votes, eliminated) On 31 May 2006, all three bids completed the second phase of the process. This was by submitting more detailed dossiers, before UEFA conducted site visits to candidate countries in September. The final decision was due to be announced on 8 December 2006 in Nyon, but this was postponed to "give bidding associations more time for the fine tuning of their bids". Group A of UEFA Euro 2012 was played from 8 to 16 June 2012. The pool was made up of co-host Poland, Czech Republic, Greece and Russia. The top two finishing teams, Czech Republic and Greece, progressed to the quarter-finals, while Russia and Poland were eliminated from the tournament. The Stadion Narodowy im. Kazimierza Górskiego (, en, Kazimierz Górski's National Stadium), known for sponsorship reasons as the PGE Narodowy since 2015 (with patron being added in 2021), is a retractable roof football stadium located in Warsaw, Poland. It is used mostly for concerts and football matches and is the home stadium of Poland national football team. With a seating capacity of 58,580, the stadium is the largest association football arena in Poland. Its construction was started in 2008 and was finished in November 2011.
