UEFA Euro 1984 Group 2
Group 2 of UEFA Euro 1984 was one of only two groups in the final tournament's initial group stage. It began on 14 June and was completed on 20 June. The group consisted of West Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Romania. Spain won the group and advanced to the semi-finals along with Portugal. West Germany and Romania were eliminated. UEFA Euro 1984
The 1984 UEFA European Football Championship final tournament was held in France from 12 to 27 June 1984. It was the seventh UEFA European Championship, a competition held every four years and endorsed by UEFA. At the time, only eight countries took part in the final stage of the tournament, seven of which had to come through the qualifying stage. France qualified automatically as hosts of the event; in the tournament led by Michel Platini, who scored nine goals in France's five matches, ''Les Bleus'' won the championship – their first major international title. Bid process The hosting of the event was contested by bids from France and West Germany. The French bid was unanimously selected by the UEFA Executive Committee at a meeting on 10 December 1981. Wolfgang Rolff (born 26 December 1959) is a German football manager and former player. Playing career Rolff played in 356 Bundesliga matches (47 goals) for Hamburger SV, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Bayer 05 Uerdingen, Karlsruher SC and 1. FC Köln. He further took part in 126 2. Bundesliga matches (23 goals) for OSC Bremerhaven and SC Fortuna Köln, having a spell in France with RC Strasbourg for whom he scored four goals in 30 games in Ligue 2. The team captain of an association football team, sometimes known as the skipper, is a team member chosen to be the on-pitch leader of the team; they are often one of the older or more experienced members of the squad, or a player that can heavily influence a game or has good leadership qualities. Karl-Heinz "Kalle" Rummenigge (; born 25 September 1955) is a German football executive and former professional player. He was the longtime Chairman of Executive Board of FC Bayern München AG, a daughter company of German Bundesliga team Bayern Munich. As a player, Rummenigge had his greatest career success with Bayern Munich, where he won the Intercontinental Cup, two European Cups, as well as two league titles and two domestic cups. Guido Buchwald
Guido Ulrich Buchwald (born 24 January 1961) is a German former professional football player. Throughout his career he played as a defender. He is currently director of football of Stuttgarter Kickers. The best game of Buchwald's career was the final of the 1990 FIFA World Cup victory for West Germany against Argentina where he effectively marked Diego Maradona for almost the entire match, earning him the nickname "Diego". Hans-Peter Briegel
Hans-Peter Briegel (born 11 October 1955) is a German former professional football player and manager who played as a defender or midfielder. One of the most popular German players in his days, Briegel's original sport was athletics, being successful in various events such as long jump (personal best: 7 metres 44 cm, aged 16), triple jump and specifically in heptathlon-forerunner pentathlon. Karlheinz Förster
Karlheinz Helmut Förster (born 25 July 1958) is a German former professional footballer who played as a central defender. The younger brother of another football defender, Bernd Förster, he was regarded as one of the world's top man-markers at his peak, and played most of his career at VfB Stuttgart with Bernd. Bernhard "Bernd" Georg Josef Förster (born 3 May 1956) is a former German Association football, footballer who played as a Defender (association football), defender and midfielder.
