UCI Gran Fondo World Championships
The UCI Gran Fondo World Championships are the culmination of a series of mass participation cycling events in the Gran Fondo/ cyclosportive tradition. Unlike the UCI Road World Championships, which are considered an elite professional event, the Gran Fondo World Championship are targeted at mass participation and cyclists not in full-time professional teams, uniting amateurs and retired professionals, dedicated club cyclists and age-group competitors. Qualification for the World Championships is achieved through participation in the UCI Gran Fondo World Series. In 2023, for the first time they were held together with the elite road racing championships as part of the inaugural 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships. Medals will be awarded in road race and time trial, across age-group classifications. Older riders compete in Medio Fondo,a shorter version of the Gran Fondo. Cyclosportive
A cyclosportive, or often simply sportive, is a short to long distance, organised, mass-participation cycling event, typically held annually. The Italian term '' Gran Fondo'' is commonly used for these events in the United States, Australia and some other English-speaking countries. ''Cyclosportive'' is short for the French term french: label=none, randonnée cyclosportive (the spelling cyclosportif is sometimes also used but ''cyclosportive'' is correct as ''randonnée'' is a feminine noun in French). Many cyclists use sportives to challenge themselves in a personal battle against the distance and then ultimately, the clock. Some participants in a cyclosportive will ride the event like a race, with prizes awarded and considerable prestige for top place finishers, particularly in events like La Marmotte, L'Étape du Tour and the Ardechoise. UCI Road World Championships
The UCI Road World Championships are the annual world championships for bicycle road racing organized by the (UCI). The UCI Road World Championships consist of events for road race and individual time trial, and a mixed team relay. Events All the world championship events are ridden by national teams, not trade teams such as in most other major races. The winner of each category is entitled to wear the rainbow jersey in races of that category (either mass start or time trial) until the next championships. 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships
The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships was the inaugural edition of the UCI Cycling World Championships organised by the (UCI), held between 3 and 13 August 2023 in Glasgow. The UCI Cycling World Championships, to be held every four years in the year preceding the Olympic Games, brings together various disciplines of cycling for them to be held as part of one event, including the UCI Road World Championships, UCI Mountain Bike World Championships and UCI Track Cycling World Championships. The event had a budget of £45–50 million, with funding coming from various local and national bodies, including the Scottish Government and UK Sport.
