UBC Old Boys Ravens
UBC Old Boys Ravens is a Canadian rugby union team based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Founded in 1974, Ravens was formed by graduates from the University of British Columbia. The club currently competes in, and is the two-time defending champion of, the British Columbia Premier Rugby League. History The UBC Old Boys Ravens came into being in 1974 when a group of graduates from the University of British Columbia, who had been coached by national coach Donn Spence and which included many young aspiring national and provincial players, decided to form their own team. They were interested in playing wide-open, entertaining, running rugby with an emphasis on letting the ball do the work. They also wished to maintain a close link with the university and their former coach Donn Spence. In keeping with native folklore, the "Thunderbird" emblem of UBC became the "Raven" of the graduate team. Gareth Rees (rugby Union)
Gareth Lloyd Rees (born 30 June 1967) is a Canadian former international rugby union footballer who played at fly-half and full back positions. Rees played for several British club sides, including Wasps and Harlequins. He won 55 caps for Canada, captaining them on 23 occasions and scoring 487 test points. In October 2011, Rees received arguably his greatest honour with induction to the IRB Hall of Fame. He and fellow 2011 inductee Brian Lima of Samoa are the first members of the IRB Hall from nations outside of the traditional top tier of the sport. Spence McTavish (born 25 August 1948) is a Canadian rugby union player. John D. Graf (born December 3, 1968) is a former Canadian national rugby player. He had the unique distinction of being capped at five positions: wing, center, full back, fly-half and scrum-half.
