UAAP Season 53 is the 1990–91 athletic year of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. Men's basketball The UAAP men's basketball competition opens on July 28 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium after the opening ceremonies were twice postponed. Team standings Defending seniors champion De La Salle University swept the first round of eliminations with seven straight victories. The Green Archers, however, saw their first three victories being reversed to a loss, when the UAAP board, via a 5–1 vote, ruled that Green Archer Noli Locsin had not completed the required one-year residency in La Salle and its therefore ineligible to play this season. Locsin saw action in their games against the Bulldogs, the Falcons and Glowing Goldies. The Araneta Coliseum, also currently known by naming rights sponsorship as Smart Araneta Coliseum, is an indoor multi-purpose arena, sports arena that is part of the Araneta City in the Cubao area of Quezon City, Philippines. Nicknamed as "the Big Dome", it is one of the largest indoor arenas in Asia, and it is also one of the largest clear span domes in the world. The dome measures approximately making it the largest dome in Asia from its opening in 1960 until 2001 when it was surpassed by the Ōita Stadium in Japan with a dome measuring . Blue Eagle Gym
The Blue Eagle Gym is a gymnasium located in the main campus of the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City, Philippines. Unlike most gymnasiums, the basketball court is oriented perpendicular to the orientation of the building. History The indoor facility was built in 1949, three years before the Ateneo de Manila University moved from its Manila campus to its current main campus in Loyola Heights, Quezon City in 1952. At its inauguration in 1949, it was called the Ateneo de Manila Gymnasium or Ateneo Gym. From late 1960s to mid 1970s, it was officially known as the Loyola Center. The Ninoy Aquino Stadium, now known as PSC Multipurpose Gym, is an indoor sporting arena located in the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, Philippines. Originally built in the 1950s, it was renovated and renamed for Philippine senator Benigno S. Luis Manuel B. Locsin (born October 19, 1971), better known as Noli Locsin, is a Filipino retired professional basketball player. Dubbed as "The Tank", He is best known for his playing years with the Ginebra San Miguel franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association. Goal difference, goal differential or points difference is a form of tiebreaker used to rank sport teams which finish on equal points in a league competition. Either "goal difference" or "points difference" is used, depending on whether matches are scored by goals (as in ice hockey and association football) or by points (as in rugby union and basketball). Edward Joseph Feihl
Edward Joseph "E. J." Feihl (born March 27, 1970) is a Filipino retired professional basketball player of German Filipino descent. He stands 7'1" tall, making him the tallest Filipino professional basketball player ever to play in the PBA. At the UAAP, Feihl debuted for the UST Growling Tigers in 1990 but decided to play for the Adamson Soaring Falcons the following season. In 1992, he helped the collegiate team reach the final but conceded the title to FEU. He represented the Philippines in several international competitions. Feihl was drafted by Ginebra San Miguel in 1995 and played for two seasons with the team. A controversial talk about a contract extension led to Feihl's departure in 1997.
