''United States v. Google LLC'' is an ongoing federal United States antitrust law, antitrust case brought by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) against Google, Google LLC on January 24, 2023. The suit accuses Google of illegally monopolizing the Ad tech, advertising technology (adtech) market in violation of sections 1 and 2 of the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890. The suit is separate from the United States v. Google LLC (2020), first antitrust case launched in 2020 that accuses Google of an illegal monopoly in the search engine market. Filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the suit aims to force Google to sell off significant portions of adtech business and require the company to cease certain business practices. The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia (in case citations, E.D. Va.) is one of two United States district courts serving the Commonwealth of Virginia. It has jurisdiction over the Northern Virginia, Hampton Roads, and Richmond metro areas and surrounding locations with courthouses located in Alexandria, Norfolk, Richmond and Newport News (whose judges are shared with Norfolk). Appeals from the Eastern District of Virginia are taken to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit (except for patent claims and claims against the U.S. government under the Tucker Act, which are appealed to the Federal Circuit).
