U.S. Route 62 In New Mexico
U.S. Route 62 (US 62) is part of the U.S. Highway System. US 62 travels from the United States–Mexico border at El Paso, Texas, to Niagara Falls, New York. In the U.S. state of New Mexico, US 62 extends from the Texas state line southwest of Whites City and ends at the Texas state line east of Hobbs. Route description Through New Mexico, US 62 is entirely concurrent with US 180. The highway continues past Carlsbad Caverns National Park and White's City into the city of Carlsbad. In Carlsbad, US 285 joins US 62/US 180 for approximately , then heads east to Hobbs. US 62 comes within of the WIPP Plant while also coming across several State Highway termini: New Mexico State Road 360 (NM 360), NM 176, NM 243, NM 529, NM 483, NM 360, and NM 8 along the stretch. Waste Isolation Pilot Plant
The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, or WIPP, is the world's third deep geological repository (after Germany's Repository for radioactive waste Morsleben and the Schacht Asse II salt mine) licensed to store transuranic radioactive waste for 10,000 years. The storage rooms at the WIPP are 2,150 feet (660 m) underground in a salt formation of the Delaware Basin. The waste is from the research and production of United States nuclear weapons only. The plant started operation in 1999, and the project is estimated to cost $19 billion in total. Hobbs High School
Hobbs High School (HHS) is located in Hobbs, New Mexico, United States. It had a student population of about 1900 students as of 2017. In addition to Hobbs it serves Monument, Nadine, and North Hobbs. Ralph Tasker coached basketball at HHS for 49 years, from 1949 to 1998. Campus The school has a fairly standard indoor campus with several classrooms that can be entered from the outside. It also has a new auditorium and athletic center. Until May 2002, Hobbs freshmen went to one of three junior high schools: Highland, Houston, or Heizer. All three housed 7th through 9th grade. The decision was made to convert Heizer Junior High School into a freshman high school to help transition 9th grade students into high school curriculum and behavioral expectations.
