Yazoo City, Mississippi
Yazoo City is a U.S. city in Yazoo County, Mississippi. It was named after the Yazoo River, which, in turn was named by the French explorer Robert La Salle in 1682 as "Rivière des Yazous" in reference to the Yazoo tribe living near the river's mouth. It is the county seat of Yazoo County and the principal city of the Yazoo City Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is part of the larger Jackson–Yazoo City Combined Statistical Area. Sunflower River
The Sunflower River (also known as the Big Sunflower River) is one of the main tributaries of the Yazoo River in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It is navigable by barge for 50 miles. It rises in De Soto County, Mississippi near the Tennessee border and flows south for 100 miles to the Yazoo River, a major tributary of the Mississippi River. At Clarksdale, the county seat of Coahoma County, the annual Sunflower River Blues & Gospel Festival is held. The United States Army Corps of Engineers maintains a navigation channel, thirty miles in length. Built in 1976, the channel is used by barges and pleasure craft. According to the USGS, variant names include Hushpuckaman Creek. Baird is an unincorporated community located in Sunflower County, Mississippi, United States. Baird is approximately west of Moorhead and southeast of Indianola. The settlement was named for John Rupert Baird, the former owner of the town site. In the early 1900s, a station of the Southern Railway was located in Baird. Inverness, Mississippi
Inverness is a town in Sunflower County, Mississippi, Sunflower County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,019 at the 2010 census. As the town had the largest cotton gin in the Delta, it served as a gathering place for farmers from the region when they brought their cotton for processing. The town was heavily damaged by a tornado in 1971. Historic weather event The small town was virtually destroyed on February 21, 1971 when an F5 February 1971 Mississippi Valley tornado outbreak, tornado, one of many storms in the outbreak, struck more than a dozen towns in portions of Louisiana and Mississippi. Caile, Mississippi
Caile is an unincorporated community located in Sunflower County, Mississippi in the Mississippi Delta. Caile is located on U.S. Route 49W approximately north of Isola and approximately south of Inverness. The origin of the community's name is unknown and was also known as 'Lawrence Deadening'. It was founded c. 1888 but never grew to more than a small settlement. The post office (called Ark, To avoid confusion with Coila in Carroll County (http://www.rootsweb.com/~mssunflo/towns1.htm#caile)) was discontinued in 1917 (Brieger,J. F. 1980. Lake Dawson (born January 2, 1972) is a former professional American football player and current executive in the National Football League (NFL). He graduated from Federal Way High School in 1990, where he had participated in football, basketball, and track.
